Orange is the new orange

Lisa Angelo spotted those two new Orange Line cars out for a spin on the third set of tracks near Wellington station this morning as they undergo several months of testing.
Meanwhile, the T reports the CRRC plant in Springfield has accepted four new Orange Line "shells" for assembly into actual Orange Line cars:

Realistic testing parameters?
Perhaps they should be testing on the actual revenue service tracks that passengers ride on, instead of the newly rebuilt "express" track. Easy enough to do during off-hours when revenue service isn't running.
Also, I'm sure the dynamics of a six car loaded train are vastly different than a two car unloaded one.
Walk before run
Walk before run
Fair enough. Guess I still have memories
of the "extensive" pre-revenue testing they did for the Boeing LRVs and the Breda Type 8s (I.e. little to none).
Overnight testing on actual tracks
They needed the baseline before shifting over, but I did see it overnight on the overpass for Medford St. in Malden.
Thanks for the update.
Much appreciated.

My level of jealousy knows no bounds
When it comes to what the people on the north end of the Orange Line get to see.
I'm such a geek that I was pondering heading out to Springfield to see what, if anything, one can see outside the factory. That said, since the only have 4 shells as of now, I think I can put that off until summer.
Try This
Sign up for alerts from MassDOT. They might be doing tours/dog and pony shows/photo ops at some point. Ditto for some of the organizations that are heavily involved and likely to do limited field trips.
There are often windows of opportunity to see stuff like that. That's how I got to tour the Wynn site during remediation and also got a great tour of Deer Island.
Thanks for the tip
I get Casey/Arborway alerts, which are often confusing and frustrating (listing the same work being "done" for weeks on end without an end in sight.)
A little nerd told me ...
DOT summer interns are going to get tours of things, too ... but I suspect you are well beyond that in your career curve!
Seconded.
Seconded.
I got to see a lot of cool stuff as a summer intern for the DOT. I think the highlight was probably a tour of the bowels of the big dig.
Orange Line Reviewing Stand
The Ava parking garage at Assembly Row. Sits right by the tracks. One of the new cars rolled past this afternoon (making an odd popping sound.) Eye level = About the 3rd level of the garage by the Zipcars.
