Why are you reading this? You should be out buying bread, eggs and milk!

We went to French Toast Code Orange earlier this afternoon based on this forecast. And now Harv confirms we were right to panic: Look, he's posted his dread three exclamation points of wintry doom!!! So you know we're in for a rough weekend.

How many trips to Roche's?
Do we have to run to Roche's before each storm? Or can you just go once & get double milk, eggs & bread for 2 storms?
Tim Kelley said it
He said '78.
And he also said December 13. That date ought to go down in infamy as well.
That's it. I'm working from home on Friday. Full loaf from Fornax, check. Let me go count the eggs.
Well played, Tim, well played
Wow, he mentioned last Dec. 13 and '78 in the same sentence - and he warned us about black guys!
Why oh why does the
Why oh why does the apocalypse come on the ONE DAY I must venture outside my home this week? I continue to hope this is all some big mistake.
Gettin' new Blizzaks Thursday morning
Oh, and please don't buy all the milk & eggs at Stop & Shop; we're almost out and I won't have time to go until lunchtime.
I was about to add the French Toast Alert to my own shane.curcuru.name/blog sidebar, but I was wondering: do we track any history of the past alerts? Do we have a track record for how accurate your judge of the local weathercaster's accuracy is?
Wow, I had forgotten how excitably hard-core geeky Boston area forecasters can be:
Nizzer keen! Did you notice the number for this post?
Blizzaks **suck**
Seriously- they're pretty much the worst snow-tire you could possibly buy; they're soft as butter (designed for much colder temps, like those in Canada and the midwest) and wear down on dry pavement so fast it's not even funny. Any savings are negated by the need to replace them more often.
Spend a little extra on Nokian, Dunlop, or the Pirelli snow tires. Consider the "all season plus" type snow tires if you're not planning on heading into the mountains to go skiing all the time, etc...they'll last much longer on the kind of roads we see around here 99% of the time (ie, no ice, no snow, moderate temperatures.)
Hakkapeliittas work well
My fiance has them and we have no complaints. They are lasting well depite being very soft...I am not so sure I understand your reasoning as to why blizzaks are so bad...if they keep you on the road and out of an accident who cares if they wear quick? Id rather pay for them than an accident. You should still be able to get 5 years plus out of them. Our Nokians are very soft, yet they have lasted 4 years so far with minimal wear. I imagine Blizzaks can't be much worse.
Michelin tires--more expensive, but among the best.
Brett--just out of curiosity, have you thought about maybe getting some Michelin tires?
You'll undoubtedly end up digging somewhat deeper into your pocketbook, but you get better tires for your money, and they're well worth it. Hope I've been of some help here.
Accuracy? Statistics?
Oh, but those would take work! :-).
I'm not trying to gauge the accuracy of the forecasts, but rather the amount of hysteria the weatherpeople are trying to whip us into. Otherwise, I would've gone higher than Blue (second lowest) for last week's storm, which was pretty horrible in significant parts of the local stations' viewing areas. But I just didn't get a sense of OMG-ness from the weatherpeople that I got today, with the revolving STORMTEAM 5 logo threatening to spin out of control and decapitate Ed Harding, Harvey's three-exclamation-point WINTER STORM WATCH, etc.
In a nutshell, adam,
This:
is precisely what I hate about snowstorm/winterstorm forecasts. Unfortunately, the weather forecasters don't seem to know how to operate without whipping most of the public into a frenzied hysteria.
Oh c'mon Miki
Can't you just run around screaming about blizzards and buying cases of eggs like the rest of us?

LOL!!
nope.
She'd rather run around and
She'd rather run around and scream about others screaming about blizzards and about how we should all do our shopping on tuesdays as usual, etc.
