It does't look like there is much cargo, is this normal? I feel like there are usually a lot more containers on a ship that's leaving a port with cargo

Looks like a bulk carrier. These types of ships may be carrying scrap metal from the scrap yards in Revere or Chelsea.

This is a general cargo ship, not a container ship, so the goods are stored below deck. Adam's right: it looks fully laden.
