Roving UHub photographer Jed Hresko discovered just how many people willing to wait in line for a free donut at the Kane's at International Place this warm National Donut Day morning.

on a donut that goes for $3.25 will outweigh the promotional costs.
Guess what, honey

They don't have a very high margin on that donut given the cost of the space. Compare and contrast prices with their Saugus location, which they own.
Not that you would ever go anyplace where you have to walk to get your donut.
Not a donut fan...

I try not to embrace the marketing to idiots of sugar and fat as some sort of "hip" indulgence.
And as far as the costs, I'm going out on a limb and say that's why the donuts at the VC sponsored High Street location are a buck higher than the Saugus one. Maybe that's why they charge $2.50 for a bottle of their house brand generic spring water also at both locations. So cry me a river about the location costs, dearie.

Brian - I offer the following as more of an observation than a criticism...are you aware of how angry and sour you sound most of the time? Many times I find myself agreeing with your insight on an issue or your point-of-view on any given matter yet your overt hostility in your posts and hair-trigger temper substantially detract from the importance of what you are saying.
In short, you end up repelling people instead of obtaining their support. I suggest you soften some of your approach. I understand a hard tone with ignoramuses & trolls but not everyone is the enemy.
Take my comments or reject them - not interested in an online spat. Just making an observation.
All due respect, Dave

I have opinions. You don't like the way I present them, then skip by my name on a post.
What else can I say? I'm not changing for anyone, certainly not a group of anonymous posters that complain about a lot, but never do a goddamned thing about engaging outside of this forum, often times even when given the chance.

we didn't stand in line when I took the photo (9 AM) but my coworkers sent me back... line was even longer. I was very tempted to ask how many in line saw it on uHub... #irony

I suspect most of these people make somewhere from $25-$100/hr at their job. I bet most are in the $40-$50/hr range.
Granted they're on salary and the math is just rough, but still. The fact that they're willing to spend 10-30 min in line for a free donut (or slice of pizza or ice-cream, or whatever) always amazes me.
Makes sense to me

Donut Fan #1: Hey pal, you still on the clock while we wait for a free one?
Donut Fan #2: Hell yeah. My boss thinks I'm running a report.
How quaint

Running a report?
What donuts were popular in 1995?

Time to hang out with your coworkers.
They ain't getting paid by the hour, and the first meeting for a high paying job is usually after 10am, with expectation that most everyone will still be around at 7pm.
Outside of your experience, sure. Easy to criticize what you don't understand.

I'm more willing to keep working for a company that doesn't care if I stand in line for a donut in the middle of the day if we are meeting our goals for the week/month than one that would keep me at my desk because it's not 5:30 PM yet.
