Guess we don't the Endangered Species Act anymore
You all have taught me that man can't possibly wipe out coyotes, or any other species. Life will find a way. Even though the logic seems to be taken from Jeff Goldblum in the first Jurassic Park, fine. Done. See you later Endangered Species Act, good luck you remaining boxed turtles. Oh wait, nevermind, let's not because the premise is stupid. Honestly I'm amazed no one has called for drivers licenses and affordable housing for the coyotes yet. (of course they live in the woods! You try finding habitation in Swampscott! Did you know that Baker lives there?)

Bear in mind that we haven't been able to eradicate rats or rabbits or raccoons or other species because such measures are both extreme and very difficult.
Again, you have no idea about population dynamics. Notice ravens and crows around lately? They were nearly eradicated by West Nile Virus.
Guess what: THEY ARE BACK. Why? Because there is food and habitat for them.
And that was a virus spread by mosquitoes that took them out. We are not likely to find anything so efficient as that. Your demands are not only ridiculous, they are impractical.
By your logic, cars kill thousands of kids each year - let's eradicate those. And guns, too. See where this goes?

Two ridiculous statements. If they are such "dangerous vermin", how come human beings haven't been wiped out as a species?
As for your ridiculous $100 bounty, even if you got every hunter out there hunting for coyotes, it wouldn't be enough. And you do not want a bunch of yahoos to say, "Hmmm, $100 a head, how hard can it be, I think I'll become a hunter!" That's how you change the headline from "Teen bit by coyote" to "Teen shot and killed by Big Hunter Wannabe".

Unless you can find me three coyotes a day in a place where I can shoot them, it ain't happening.
Plus the time to handle the kills, and claim the bounties, $100 isn't even really much higher than a typical entry level day job.
You not only fail at population biology, and completely fail at hunting/skinning/gutting and bureaucracy, you fail at personal finance.

There there is the simple economics that the only people who think $100 per coyote is worth it are bound to be a little loose in the cranium.
Eradication
Anyone who has seen any of the excellent Warner Brothers documentaries on the subject knows that it isn’t necessary to eradicate coyotes. They will take care of that themselves. Over and over again.
Easy Fix
Duh! You can paint a tunnel on the side of any rock wall in town and the coyote will run right into it. Bonk!
Not sure about this one
Have coyotes been responsible for any deaths in the US lately? If so, it might be wise to intervene in this situation somehow before we get our first area fatality. I like animals quite a bit, and think it's cool to see coyotes, but it's certainly not worth some little kid dying from an attack.

According to a quick google, two confirmed fatal attacks in the US on record. One was a young child; both died from blood loss. As for non-fatal, fewer than 40 are recorded. (Vs. Injuries from domestic dogs, at about 20 per year.) Coyotes and foxes tend to avoid contact with humans.

Human death from dog attack is at over 30 per year in the US, and rising. Dog bites requiring medical treatment are at about 750K per year.

Fair. I was looking specifically for coyote related deaths/injuries and glossed over domestic dogs in the process. :) Still stands that coyote attacks are still ultimately quite rare.
Fair conclusion
People are far less likely to be attacked by a coyote than by a dog. Freaking out over coyotes is ridiculous.

This is a (recent) first for the area, right?
Since coyotes started coming back to the area, I can't recall any actually attacking a human.
I can't help but wonder if it was rabid, what with the raccoon stories last week...
