Blast from Boston radio past to start 'Net streaming

Dick Summer, who once did the overnight shift on WBZ, is busy putting together an Internet station. And he's trying to get in contact with Steve Leveille, who used to do the overnight shift on WBZ and others recently let go by CBS stations. He explains in a post to the Boston Radio Interest mailing list:

Non - Political talk, done by entertaining, highly professional, honest to God real people. No money...at least not now. But a lot of personal satisfaction, and a platform to be heard all around the world.

I was going to ask if any one had information on what happened on BZ. I heard something over the weekend with Dyett. A caller commented that he would be missed. I didn't think about it. Then when I got up this morning I heard some syndicated show. This city is slowly becoming more like Cleveland.
Was this common knowledge? Did I miss something? I didn't really care for Steve's show, but he was polite and kept the show moving along. I listened for years (I get up at 3:30AM), too bad. I guess I'll go without. Definetely a loss for people who listen to late night radio and a loss for Boston. Smarten up WBZ.

the old 'BZ crew

I remember seeing Dick Summer, Jefferson Kaye, Bruce Bradley, Dave Maynard and other "young folks" at the annual summer carnivals in the early 1960's on the Boston State Hospital grounds in Mattapan. 'BZ had a booth. Great memories. Buried somewhere, I still have a visor signed by a few of them.

I liked Steve's show

I enjoyed Steve and am not optimistic about the new overnight host in St. Louis who will allegedly be responsive to the four or more cities where the new show will be broadcast. I looked on Steve's website for a way to email him but no address was evident. Steve, if you see this, I think 'BZ is ill-advisedly giving up a big asset: you. Hope to hear you on another station in Boston one day soon.

I remember Dick Summer fondly, if not too well. He played non-Top 40 songs, and beat WBCN to the deep album cut genre. When I listened to his show, I felt like I was getting something only the cool people appreciated. Definitely one of the good guys.
