Bad news for the five of you with AM-HD radios

WBZ is no longer broadcasting in HD.
That's what happens when you no longer broadcast with 50,000 WATTS OF POWER. Scott Fybush, who knows a thing or two about Boston radio, explains that there's something wrong with 'BZ's connection to its main transmitter in Hull and it's temporarily using its non-HD and lower-power (only 10,000 watts) backup transmitter on Soldiers Field Road.

Some syndicated show with Jon Grayson from St. Louis is going to be on from 12-5 in Steve's place.

BZ is dead to me
You won't find a bigger Steve fan than me. I am a devoted listener of his program. I cannot believe he won't be back, it's the saddest news I've heard in ages. I composed a Strongly Worded Letter to the program director telling them that my ~15 hours of weekly listening time will be going exclusively to BUR now.
Argh. I can't believe it. Steve's shows are the best. Who else would devote an entire night to talking about pie????

Sarah, join the club! I tuned in to 'BZ this morning (Jan. 5) to listen to Steve, and some syndicated program, "Overnight America" was on! I wondered, "Where's Steve?" So I went online to find out what was going on, and I found out that Steve's been FIRED?!?! What a major, major, MAJOR disappointment! Why??? Sarah, I feel exactly the same as you. 'BZ is dead to me now, and I've been a listener for about 40 years.
I hope Steve and 'BZ parted on amicable terms so that if we who are his fans mount a major letter-writing campaign and flood the station with letters, hopefully 'BZ will see the error of its ways and bring him back. Or, if not, hopefully, another station with smarts will sign him and we can start listening to that station instead of 'BZ, but unfortunately, I doubt that station would be a powerful 50,000 watter and I might not be able to pick it up here in northeastern Connecticut.
I already miss Steve's friendly voice on the radio in the early morning hours. The host of "Overnight America" sounds nice enough, but, HE'S NOT STEVE!!! :(
That's a nice sentiment...
...but letter writing won't do anything in this case. It's not as if Steve was fired for a controversial reason and replaced with another local host. This is a budget cut. CBS can't/won't pay a live local overnight host. He's not coming back.
It worked last time
When WBZ let go of David Brudnoy and tried replacing him with a syndicated show, a storm of protest forced the station to reverse that decision. So it's worth trying again. CBS is a pretty rich corporation and can afford to maintain quality in local stations.
Last time
...our economy wasn't in the toilet. CBS' stock is down to 8.70 from its 52 week high of 26.45.
That said, prove me wrong.

If they weren't, they could hardly afford to buy the first-ever New York Times front-page display ad today.
AH now I understand
I wondered why reception was squeaky. That's OK, now that Leveille has been replaced by "generic", I won't be listening anyway. 10,000 watts and fewer listeners left after this debacle will lead the Powerhouse to the status of a local university station.
