Rachel Rollins wins Democratic nod for Suffolk County DA
By adamg on Tue, 09/04/2018 - 9:21pm
Antonio Caban at WGBH reports that Rachel Rollins has beaten four other candidates to become the Democratic candidate to replace Dan Conley in the November general election. She'll face independent Michael Maloney.
Among the candidates she defeated - current assistant DA Greg Henning, who had the backing of both his boss and a sizeable number of other assistant DAs and police officers.
Rollins has served as an assistant US attorney - comparable to an assistant DA on the federal level - and as general counsel at both the MBTA and Massport.

Will all the police officers donate to Michael Maloney now?
Keep your eyes on OCPF.
I wouldn't be surprised. At some point you have to stop throwing good money after bad, though. Even if it means more accountability and less patronage.
Dan Henning?
I thought it was Greg?
You are correct.
It is. Yes. Greg.
Dan Henning is his uncle the
Dan Henning is his uncle the football coach.
Fixed
Thanks.
Son of ..
What I didn't know until yesterday is that Dan Henning is the son of (late) John Henning!
So when will she move her family to Suffolk County?
And I will be curious to see where she moves to.
While I am glad to have another female elected official, I can’t get past the fact that she has been elected in a county where she hasn’t even chosen to live until this race, and didn’t include her family in that temporary move.
Don't Blame her for Success
When I make a lot of money I might move out of Boston, buy a nice car and do some other things that aren't your business. When a woman of color breaks the glass and racial ceilings they should be able to live anywhere they want. Used to be that only white folks could live in her current neighborhood. Anyway, I do wish she lived in Suffolk county, but lets not get too mad about her success and family choices. Perfect being the enemy of good and all that.
County?
What's a county?
If she was on the ballot she was eligible for the job. Period. Don't like it? Get off your dead arse and start pushing through a rules change wherever that change gets made.
Or stop whining that people aren't following your rules.
It is a citizens business when she runs to REPRESENT people
She qualifies as long as she moves in by the time she is sworn in, but it is a reality that she was elected having never chosen (until a few months ago) to make her home in the areas she will lead.
The people chose her to represent them
Why is that a problem? You considered it disqualifying and didn't vote for her. Many of her neighbors clearly did not agree with that, and voted for her. So long as she did not misrepresent her residence and followed the laws regarding her eligibility to run for office in the district, it really isn't any of your concern. She received a winning share of the votes. Now she is moving.
Change the laws if you don't like that.
At least she didn't get piles of money from people who did not follow the laws.
$5 says
anon here voted for Scott Brown, before his truck had its plates changed to Massachusetts.
Except one thing
It is a requirement for the job.
She has until January, though.
Problem Solved
Well, then problem solved.
Now she moves
It was never a requirement to live somewhere to run, or else Nikki Tsongas wouldn't have been able to run in MA5. She moves now.
I don't know if you have school-age children, but buying a house and moving a family is a full-time job for a time, and one that you can't do when you spend 70 hours a week campaigning vigorously.
That may depend
One doesn't have to be a resident of a congressional district to run or be elected in it, only a resident of the state. Don't know what the rules for DA are though.
