Good Lord, is Jax really closing tomorrow?

No Jax

Jax, the Roslindale fixture that has been closing forever (well, for more than a year now, at any rate) is actually closing, no really, this time they mean it, honest, at least, according to the signs today.

There's good news for fans of cheap stuff who can't bear the thought of walking all the way around the corner to that other discount place: The Globe reports Jax is being replaced by a Family Dollar store - just like the ones in Hyde Park and West Roxbury.

I got a pair of jeans for $5 yesterday, and long johns for a buck and a quarter. :)

It's true, the signs say "2 days left" but once you're inside, the signs say "6 days left," so who really knows? It does seem like the days are (approximately) numbered.

Family Dollar will be an okay replacement. In West Roxbury there's hardly any difference between that and the Valu Village that was there before it. Probably Family Dollar will put a national brand name on Jax, some name brand goods to replace the Russian imported health & beauty stuff, and not much else. Hey, Roslindale needs a store where you can buy socks and underwear, right?

Adam, would you mind stopping by there tomorrow or Wednesday and seeing if they have really closed?

And if they're still open, let us know if they change the signs outside to "-1 DAYS LEFT" ?

Roslindale Main Streets issued a press release, you can see it on www.parkwayboston.com, last week saying the closing date is January 17th.

On Saturday, I asked a lady who works there if they are really closing, and she said, "Yes, next week."
