Four charged with beating East Boston 13-year-old at knifepoint and stealing his glasses and shoes

Boston Police report arresting a 19-year-old from Dorchester and three teens too young to be named for a knifepoint robbery around 6 pm. at Condor and Glendon streets in East Boston.

Four males were observed physically assaulting and robbing a 13-year-old male victim at knife point, stealing his glasses and shoes. All four suspects were positively identified and the victim’s glasses and shoes were returned to him.

Police charged Monte Davis, 19, and the three younger teens with armed robbery and carrying a dangerous weapon, police say, adding officers recovered two knives.

Innocent, etc.

I understand, but do not condone, stealing someone's "shoes" (perhaps expensive sneakers), but what possible reason would anyone have for stealing a pair of prescription glasses?

It's a basic bully move.

I assumed as much, but the fact that the glasses were recovered made me wonder. I would have thought that they would have destroyed them in his presence.

I had assumed that robbery was the primary motive, but if they were just being a**holes to the kid, then yep taking his glasses would add salt to the wound.

People who get jumped arw often unnecessarily punched in the face to startle and frighten them. They often will also do things to humiliate their victim(s).

But yea, ripping someones glasses off their face is a power (bully) move. Also very common.

I assumed they took his glasses so he wouldn't be able to ID them.

It's sickening, and disgusting.

For robbing somebody at knifepoint?!? Time to wake up and stop this nonsense of "protecting" suspects of serious crimes just because of their age. If this is the law, it should be repealed.

And don't start on the whole "juveniles are different" nonsense that the "experts" have brainwashed people into believing. If that is really a factor, let the kiddie's defense attorney argue it at trial.

then either guardians and society failed to provide the teen with a sufficient upbringing, or they have a mental illness or cognitive problem that needs treatment.

If you're getting upset thinking about teens behaving like psychopaths because they know being a teen is a free pass from real punishment, one way to solve that is to nurture most of them to not want to behave like psychopaths, and treat the remainder.

If you want to throw dumb and shitty kids into prison like adults, even if they "deserve" it, you're just making more criminal adults.

The other thing is, even good kids are dumb and shitty, at times. If we start treating kids like adults, for being dumb and shitty, maybe we should have more patrols of affluent neighborhoods, to pick up more lily-white ones making dumb and shitty mistakes, and treat them equally harshly, so that we're sure the policy isn't actually sublimated hatred of non-whites.

the teen who goes around beating and robbing people at knifepoint comes from a household with criminals. That being said, the chances are at least as good as not that a kid growing up in a household with criminals is more than likely to get into crime him or herself. If a presumably good kid does something that vicious, then he or she isn't such a good kid after all.
