Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester could get two residential towers, one 25 stories

The Dorchester Reporter gets the scoop on a developer's preliminary plans for the site where Channel 56 used to be, next to where the Globe used to be.

The site is very near the Logan landing path. This might surprise some of my Roslindale neighbors, but the airplanes that fly over that part of Dorchester (along with the Neponset section) and South Boston fly really low.

Of course, I am sure that the developers have looked into this. If it is okay with the FAA, it sounds like a great development plan. Transit adjacent, close to UMass/Boston with the possibility, to say the least, of taking some pressure off the neighborhoods with students wanting to live off campus, and the developer wanting to make it easier on pedestrians in the area. What's not to love?

I enjoyed a few classes at UMass Boston on my way to a Masters but even in the 80s, the place was falling apart. I'm sure there will be a handful of out-of-staters who have no idea of the situation in the UMass system (see Mt. Ida scandal for most recent fiasco) but I wouldn't want to rent a $3000 a month apartment beside college students.

As I noted a few months ago, a lovely young friend with great grades, hoping to become a nurse couldn't get into her required classes at UMB and settled for a degree in Health Science. Nursing candidates were actually camping out overnight in winter on the waterfront to get their required classes. Meanwhile, classes in poetry, pottery and Honoring the Kennedy's were vacant. No media. Disaster.

It will be interesting when some millionaire couple sends their trust fund party-child to UMass and they rent a $3000 a month apartment beside a lawyer, doctor or someone capable of reacting to it. Police can't get involved and Dorchester Court, although well run, is a circus. Try to get an eviction before semester ends. Fun!

My guess is he audited a few classes when they were free to those over sixty and now claims he has a master's degree from "The School of Hard Knocks" under his belt.

Parents send their trust fund party-children to Umass Amherst, not Umass Boston. Did your "lovely" young friend tell you all about this? You sure your friend wasn't just working Morrissey Blvd and pulling your leg? Try harder little guppy!

Make 3 lanes to 2 on the preliminary redo of morrissey. Add 2 high risers.
Brilliant.

If You live next-door to a subway station and cross town buses and you still decided to drive down Morrissey Boulevard at rush-hour then That’s on you.

More future luxury towers with no one living in them... merely unoccupied investment properties.

There may be some buildings in the more ritzy parts of town that have these empty units you speka of but I highly doubt any foreign investor is going to tie up their money on Morrisey Blvd condos that sit empty. There is nothing wrong with Dorchester but there is nothing inherantly attractive to a foreign audience to that part of town that would justify using it as a way to park money. Not in the same way as parts of Beacon Hill and Back Bay at least.

Believe it or not most units built in Greater Boston are in fact occupied by normal residents. Don't let the occasional Air BNB hotel or investor apartment scare you from accepting the fact that we are in critical need of more places for people to live.

There are empty condo's, apartments and houses all over Dorchester. The money is all ready tied yup honey. Buy and hold.

The description says "apartments" not "condos". Apartments remain owned by the developer or whomever they sell it to.

Daily traffic congestion and huge chunks of time wasted sitting in our cars stuck in Boston traffic is making us stressed out and enraged. Everyone out there start doing yoga and meditating. I'm buying a scooter.

Chanel 56

Ah, the classic French fashion boutique for older folks...

Guessing you meant "Channel 56" here!

A street vendor in Manhattan had a great deal on a bottle of Chanel No. 56, but for some reason my wife was not so impressed.

This should be allowed if they put a large Toll on Morrisey for non-Boston residents! It takes me so long to go from Popes Hill area to Columbia in the morning because the south shore people think it's faster than the expressway (hint: it's not).

Then surrounding towns will toll all Boston residents trying to leave the city!

How about we just tax anyone living in Boston not born here!

Why would we want to use local roads in Norwood or wherever?
