Arthur Fiedler's giant head approves of last night's events

Arthur Fiedler's giant head with a Red Sox cap on

The Esplanade Fiedler Head is sporting a 17-foot-wide, 7-foot-tall knit Sox cap this morning in honor of the team's ALDS victory last night, courtesy of the Esplanade Association.

“My father was a Red Sox fan and I often joined him at Fenway Park for games. I’m sure he would approve of the donning of a Red Sox hat, especially this year,” said Peter Fiedler, son of legendary Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler.

For people who are from aways or have money to travel:

Is this sort of thing common in other cities as well?

I am sure I've seen the Rocky statute decked out in Eagles gear, etc, but the whole giant handmade caps on oversized statutes thing (or small caps on small things - a la Ducklings)?

Is Boston Just Another City doing a popular thing, or is this fairly unique?

As a Bostonian recently transplanted to Madison, WI I can tell you that Boston's dumb sports stuff is tame in comparison to the Badgers stuff, but about on par with the Packers stuff.

However, whether we are trendsetters or hopeless followers, I heartily approve of this behavior!

Though notions of 'cute statues' may vary by user.

(train station staff maintain a regular schedule of costumes)

Maestro Arthur Fiedler was also a great fan of the Boston Fire Department, named an honorary Boston Fire Captain, he would often visit major fires in his own vehicle, offering food, water, coffee and other refreshments. He also had a nice collection of antique fire gear that he donated to the Boston Fire Museum. He was great to the police and EMS also. A nice man.
