Looks like JP just isn't the place for burger joints

Mooyah closed

Mooyah, next to the Jackson Square T stop, looks to be an Ex-yah now. Not only was it closed this afternoon, it's been stricken from the Mooyah Web site.

The outlet opened a little more than a year ago, several months after the second Grass Fed, in Forest Hills, closed. The original Grass Fed, on Centre Street, got a new owner, but has itself been closed for several months.

Maybe the demographics work out, but JP was once the best place for vegetarians to dine and the same people that made it so still live there.

But you do realize there are also omnivores living in JP, too.

You are out of your mind. Nowhere in Boston has ever been particularly good for veg options, other than maybe union square Allston. All of the limited veg options in Massachusetts have always been clustered in Somerville/Cambridge. Metro Boston has the saddest veg offerings for a city its size and supposedly progressive bent.

I think we're rapidly approaching Peak Burger for boston.

Much like cupcake shops and froyo places... they will start to close.

The burger themed chain restaurant landscape has become crowded enough to confuse them. When you find yourself asking 'was it B Good or was it Tasty Burger that I thought was crappy? Oh, right, it was Shake Shack,' then they all lose your custom.

That said, I just googled the map for burger restaurants, and there are so many that I've never heard of (Beta Burger? I want an ALPHA BURGER, dammit!) that it's clear someone must have managed to make enough money at burger restaurants that others are trying to duplicate the success.

A good place in JP to grab a burger is Same Old Place - they have a decent burger and fries special for $9.

Can't beat Galway House for price, quantity, and taste. That's why it's lasted so many years.

What kind of business would do well there? I'd like to see a discount store or something where everyone can afford to shop or eat.

Retail in this building (225 Centre) has been overall unsuccessful and Mooyah is jsut the latest to close. They were on the side of the building facing the Jackson square T entrance and the two bus lanes where thousands of bus riders await buses all day long. The spot really begs for a convenience store, DD or some other outfit that shouts, "quick! grab and go!" If you're standing there waiting for your bus you cannot miss whatever retail might be in that corner.

On the other side of the building (Columbus Ave) the retail is in a prime location visually but there is absolutely no obvious place to park, thus anyone driving by would be hard-pressed to pull over even if they did see a store they liked.

Mooyah always struck me as far too expensive... but for what? I understand - and will pay - a premium for grass fed or other "craft"/natural burgers & meals. Mooyah was basically a slightly upscale fast food experience for more money and smaller portions. If I'm going to load up on the grease and carbs like that I'm tempted to just go to McD's.

I'll keep going to over to American Legion. Flaming Grill is awesome and cheap and COOL decor and vibe!! Dollar Tree, Save-A-Lot, Popeye's, Payless Shoes, Simco's, Bargain Outlet, and a couple of the best family-run dollar store/less-than-$5 stores in Boston. Now THAT'S what I and my kids call a fun day! More for your buck, shopping and a belly full of delicious food!
