I haven't watched broadcast TV in over 5 years. I have no idea how I survived every single storm so far without watching any of these clowns going out with their measuring sticks, twinkies, bowling balls, rain jackets, whatever. We're oh so close to being a real-world Idiocracy society.

Who specifically is the demographic audience for this garbage? It must be generating income or they wouldn't be doing it. And it also looks like it's an embedded commercial for Hostess or whatever company makes Devil Dogs and Twinkies.

And you get sent out in every single storm. It gets boring after awhile. It's cold and miserable. You could be asleep standing up and just have a record play the same report you gave last year from the same spot off 128 in Newton or 93 in Andover or Franklin Street in Worcester and nobody would know the difference.

But no, don't you dare think of having the least amount of fun with your report because somebody out there, sitting on his couch will get annoyed and God forbid that should happen.

It may be cold, it may be miserable, but after a while it's not news. Call it what it is. Entertainment. For whatever types actually want to watch this kind of entertainment. I guess it's "tradition".

I agree that the local stations could get away with stock footage of past snowstorms or at least use the remote traffic cameras along our interstates. They already do in some cases. I know of a local serious car crash that was reported by the anchors, not a field reporter or photographer. A random skid mark on some country road was shown while they read the story of the crash even though the footage had nothing to do with the particular crash they were talking about.

If not for the snow, we would have had a full newscast of mindless Patriots reporting. Earlier tonight, one of the "news" channels had a fan who enjoyed sewing. She had stitched together Pats shirts going back to their first Superbowl win and made a quilt. It's not just on slow, holiday weekends. Try to get any meaningful local TV coverage of a City Council or State Legislature session or hearing on a nice day with no local teams playing. Instead, if covered at all, it is just a recitation of the press release with no media digging, then hope for a job in the State House or City Hall press corps which seems to expand in direct correlation to media layoffs.

I can remember eating Suzy-Qs in the 1970's. They were delicious. But like Twinkies and all the other Hostess "snacks" they all taste like chemicals. Gross.
