Police hunt man who made clean getaway with 22 bottles of Tide

Alleged Tide thief

Police in Stoughton are looking for a guy who managed to sneak 22 or so bottles of Tide out of the local Stop & Shop without paying for them.

While it's possible he has a large family at home and needs to do a lot of laundry, it's also possible he'll use the detergent to pay for drugs or to fence the stuff.

If you see Tide Man, contact Stoughton Police at 781-344-2424.

He might be a confused druggie, and start drinking the stuff. In which case he'll be bubbling over with enthusiasm.

How's that even possible? I wouldn't know how to carry more than 4 or 5 bottles of detergent. Maybe 8 or 10 if I had a whole lot of bags, but that would attract a lot of attention walking past the checkout.

He must be working with that guy who stole the quarters from that Mexican restaurant last week.

The police should open a decoy hanger shop as bait.

To everyone laughing at what an idiot this guy is for stealing laundry detergent, Adam included a link right in his post about Tide's use as a currency in drug deals. Here's another one. This has been well-known for years by well-informed people:

Me, I'm impressed that he managed to steal 22 bottles at once.

I foresee the day when Tide will be sold behind the counter and which you will have to sign for, like over the counter allergy medications (which don't work anyway) now are in CVS. What a world.

Oh good, I'll find some discounted Tide at the flea market this week.

not unlike the repeated, local shrimp thefts from grocery stores. Those are being sold to other stores or restaurants through the back door.

is also commonly used to 'cut' cocaine, heroin, etc. Sometimes detergent is sold as cocaine, especially to naive or inexperienced users.
