Not sure meetinghouse in the right here, but the fact sober house operators seem to be acting like real estate speculators is concerning. Can't help but wonder if this model is in the interest of recovering addicts. Claiming disability to avoid installing fire alarms, for example, just reeks of bad faith.

For all the grief Quincy earns in the comment threads here about Long Island, I'd bet heavy money that they have plenty of these homes unlike our leafier suburban neighbors.

I love how city hall goes to bat for Dorchester but can't lift a finger for Roxbury. Those dorchester officials are all for services until it's near their homes!

I know some people want all addicts to just DIE to make them feel superior and immune, but that isn't the best thing for society. People need help to transition to sober independent living. It is best for them to be near public transit, but these places should be just about everywhere, since addicts come from al walks of life.
PS: FTR, There are two of these houses within a 1/4 mile of my house. There are few problems other than occasional sidewalk blocking with cars not fully in the driveway.

Eustis Street, Roxbury, between Hamden and Magazine Street...that's ALL you'll see. No owners, no permanent residents. All Sober/Recovery houses..ON THE WHOLE STREET!!!!! Why not Newton? Why not Belmont? Why not Wellesley? Why not Milton? Why not Beacon Hill????? Why not....The list of "why nots" is endless.
BUT why not? In any of the aforementioned locales, WHY NOT allow entire streets to house "those in need.."???WHY NOT???

Do a Eminent Domain on the Wynn Casino (AKA ENCORE). Use the hotel part for housing. Keep the profits from the Casino. Do on-site job training for casino work. The profits would more than pay the costs. Reserve a portion of the massive profits for previously sexually abused former employees.
