Marty, who lives in Brookline, explains why not only won't he date women from Cambridge and Somerville, he doesn't even want to visit there:
All the independent stores and restaurants, with their "edginess" — they're just not my thing. I much prefer the Back Bay or Brookline to Central Square or Harvard Square.
In fact, I am strictly a Green Line person, and I do believe there are Green Line people and Red Line people. And yes, I prefer people who live on this side of the river too. ...

Huh, no independent stores or restaurants in Brookline? What do you think the Coolidge Corner Theatre and Brookline Booksmith and Zaftigs are?

That's funny, I feel the same way about people on the green line. Between Brighton and Southie, you've got yourself a long distance relationship.
Marty's right...

He's right. There is a difference. Instead of namecalling his post, we should "embrace" the fact that there are differences. Then continue to live on in our preferred neck of the woods.
BTW, Most of Coolidge Corner's real estate is far from independent - a la CVS, the GAP, Ritz Camera, Pier One, McDonalds, Trader Joes, etc. It's a great mix I think -- I love Coolidge Corner.

Wait, wait, wait... can we clarify which Red Line stores are supposed to be "edgy"? Since when are a bunch of Irish pubs, independent bike and ice cream stores, and a half dozen colleges "edgy"? Is that "edgy" like a Quentin Tarantino film, or is that "edgy" like bars that don't have beer on tap? I think I'll go hang out in Quincy, Mattapan, and Dorchester and soak in the edgy, independent atmosphere. Sounds great.
Whhhhat?
