More condos proposed for Leo Birmingham Parkway in Brighton

Architect's rendering of proposed Leo Birmingham Parkway building

Architect's rendering of proposed building and unusual ghost pickup.

City Realty is proposing a six-story, 53-unit condo building on a stretch of Leo Birmingham Parkway near Western Avenue in Brighton that is fast transforming from commercial use to apartment and condo buildings.

The proposed $15-million building with 50 parking spaces at 50-56 Leo Birmingham Parkway would replace a low-slung building now home to a glass company and some apartments, next to a one-time office building that now serves as a State Police barracks, just down the street from where a residential building is nearing completion on the old Black & Decker site, just up the street from where another developer wants to replace the Lincoln Tavern with condos, and not far from where another developer will put apartments on Soldiers Field Road.

The units will include 20 studios, 22 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units. Many of the units will have a balcony; the building will also have a roof deck and exercise and meeting rooms.

Glad to see that stretch of Leo Birmingham become a real neighborhood rather than a drive by/highway ramp area.

Should definitely make the walk from Western Ave to the new train station a lot more appealing.

I have been past this location literally thousands of times and never had any idea that there was a field behind those buildings. (I was ready to make a snide comment about the second picture being wrong, but turns out it was I who was confused.)

I've played softball there, and even if you know there's a field there it can take a minute to find it.

I make an evening walk circuit in the warmer months which takes me through the park to watch people play softball, and, if I have the time and ambition, over to Warrior to watch whatever kids/adults are slapping a puck around.

the tall lights are the giveaway, esp on sping/summer nights when they are playing ball.

Are they ever going to fix the intersection of Leo Birmingham and Western/Arsenal/Soldiers Field? There's going to be a lot of people playing Frogger between all these new condos and Arsenal Yards / Target.

...and uh-oh! He was a Democrat! loljjkjk

It'd be cool if the public green had some kind of plaque or monument to Leo Birmingham. Add a little history lesson to this development (so I don't have to consult Wikipedia for this kind of information).

So, for what its worth, I am pretty sure there is a monument in the median by the radio stations, where the parkway and the ... parkway intersect.

I admit that I don't spend much time around this area.

There’s a plaque in front of Entercom. It’s a replacement. The original brass one was stolen.

I wonder if it will shadow the park. The streets behind there contain lots of smaller, one to three or four unit structures, many owner-occupied. It is starting to feel a bit hemmed in.

every time somebody ejaculates "build it" about one of these bland malls we all get cancer a little. even worse, is when they say "build baby build." You only think this is okay because everything does not look like this yet. But, wait until everything, I mean everything, does look like that, then you'll have to ask: what kind of fucking fucks want to live here?

Aesthetics matter and creep up on you in this case.

Concede that pretty for buildings isn't my area of expertise, take pride that someone can have shelter in a nice place to live, and look in the other (expletive) direction.

Seriously, what person trying to keep/improve their life here has any capacity to get bent about something like this?
