Swimman spotted two leaf bags bursting with Lego bricks on Dartmouth Street at Appleton Street in the South End this morning.

I brought a bunch of bags down there. One woman took some for her grandchild. Another young man took some for the youth center in Melrose where he volunteers. And I took several bags for the youth at Learn2Teach Teach2Learn.
To which Swimman replies:
I'm glad people are taking them! I have no idea where the Legos came from but they all seemed in great shape. Also glad the one bag was kind of ripped so that the contents were obvious. I saw 2 kids squealing with delight and filling their backpacks with them as I left for work.

I leave things out for donation and Buy Nothing gifts all the time--you leave it on your property, in a carry-able bag with the person's name on it, not on the edge of the sidewalk in weird, unwieldy bags. Those were definitely abandoned.

It amazes me how bad some people are at following trash/recycling guidelines.
Old house plants: ok in yard waste
Plastic flowerpot: not so much
Tupperware: recyclable.
Large amount of spaghetti in the Tupperware: not so much
and No Plastic Bags! It's on the bin in large print, so why don't people get it? They get twisted up in the sorting machinery.

As a teacher, I beg people not to throw out Legos, schools, afterschool/before school programs, etc. can use these. As someone who scours yard sales (because Legos are expensive), FB groups, etc. to supply my classroom - please, Please, PLEASE pass old legos onto those of us who could use them but are not given a budget for them.
