Globe just gives up and pulls salmon-pissing column, even after removing reference to salmon pissing
By adamg on Fri, 04/12/2019 - 10:26am
The Washington Post reports that after deleting a columnist's wish to have pissed on William Kristol's salmon and his don't-do-it-but-do-it urging to restaurant workers to do something similar to Kirstjen Nielsen's food, the Globe surrendered to criticism and pulled Luke O'Neil's online column.
The move leaves us with only Joan Vennochi's column in which she says, yeah, Nielsen is a horrible person, but we should let her speak.

God forbid
Someone in a position of power who did bad things ever suffer any consequences for what they have done. it would be un-American!
Is any of this on Instagram?
Like, In all seriousness, I literally have no idea who any of the persons are that any of you are talking about in these threads. Except Joan Venocchi. She and I have a number of talks over the years over how things are run and empowering and how to get to the top. We don't always see eye to eye, but she can look up at me.
People really should learn not to read things from people they don't want to read from or about, it isn't worth putting your panties on.
Truth is, I hardly read anything anyway, it's not news if it isn't on instagram, twitter, or Utube or Snapchat.

Devra First, too
Last June, but still there:
After what they did, don’t let Kirstjen Nielsen and her colleagues eat in peace. (Linked to below the end of Joan Venocchi's column.)
Oh, great
Now the insta-hipster expertly-groomed bearded "tough" guy can claim he's a martyr.
smh
The Globe pulled a garbage move here
Terrible move on the Globe's part. Here's what they did:
1. Accepted the column submitted by the author
2. Edited, published, and then promoted column on social media.
3. After receiving criticism (that they should've expected) re-edited column to take out references to pissing on fish.
4. Removed the column and threw the author under the bus
Profiles in cowardice, if they didn't like the opinion column they shouldn't have printed it in the first place, instead they kowtowed to the right-wing blow-hards who wanted Luke O'Neil's head.
Hello there, Im a hardcore leftwing capital "D"emocrat.
And Luke O'Neill is a plastic faux rocker piece of bearded basic-ness looking for attention.
And he got it. (eyeroll)
Disagree, but it's immaterial
I don't know how you can read his work and think that, but it doesn't matter. If they didn't like the column, they shouldn't have printed and promoted it.
I doubt they did editing in Step 2
I think a lot of these columns get posted as soon as they're written, before they are edited, which is what leads to fiascos like this. I saw one op-ed a while ago that was in desperate need of copyediting when it was first posted (to the point of being almost unreadable).
Maybe So
Except Shirley Leung retweeted the column. Would she do this if she hadn't read it?
What makes you think she wouldn't?
(n/t)
WGBH Radio
She just said on the air that only one person had read it before it was posted, stating that all online pieces are supposed to be seen by two sets of eyes before going up.
And Yet
The column was then re-edited at least twice after the initial backlash. Was that the same "one set of eyes?" Whoever is responsible for this fiasco, presumably Leung, should be fired.
The comment on O'Neil from
The comment on O'Neil from the WGBH piece of "He said his goal was to bring a more liberal perspective to the Globe" reminds me of either Ellen Goodman or Diane White's line in the early 90's that the paper's op-eds at the time were "to the left of Lenin"
Rightwing blowhard here
Please, please keep at it.
Shunting people who think it's irresponsible for a newspaper to run a piece urging that people's food be tampered with into nutjob land will only increase our ranks.
Reading Comprehension is Key
If you're going to reply usefully to my comment, it helps to read it first. I'm not "shunting" anyone.

Maybe news organizations...
...need, in general, to have a lot more news and a lot less opinion.
good work, globe
Appeasing a bunch of howling jackasses who pretend to be outraged and will never be satisfied because the howling and the pretend outrage is the whole point will certainly pay off longterm.
Update: It was Henry and Pizzuti themselves ...
Who made the decision to pull the column, Shirley Leung says.
I'm deeply literally sorry
For anyone who had to read the paper today.
They could have been soul cycling ! Or trying new shades of red lipstick. Like, literally, real things to make life better.
