By adamg on Tue, 04/30/2019 - 1:47pm
Newton Police report they hope to zoom in on they guy they say walked into Rule Camera on Nevada Street, where film makers, videographers and other camera professionals rent expensive equipment and used a fake ID to abscond with some $100,000 of "media equipment" on April 19.
If he looks familiar, contact Det. Glenn Harris at 617-796-2104.

He is hiding
They need to check behind Shelley Joseph's house.,
She knew he was wanted. So you know...
Store
Poor job by the store. Renting $100k in equipment, there should be a credit card on file and some kind of security deposit. It's in Newton, so I'm sure they're well off anyway.
Riiiiight
Productions renting this kind of gear need production insurance and not a simple credit card hold as if he were renting a Kia
He used a false ID
Most likely identifying himself as affiliated with a company or production that uses Rule as their camera house. It's common practice to order/pick up equipment on the fly and a savvy scammer could easily navigate this process.
Also, it sounds like a lot but 100k in equipment isnt really that much when dealing with professional camera gear, regardless if theyre going by replacement costs vs ACV
And what is the Newton comment supposed to even mean?
I'm sure they did get a credit card
The post says "credit fraud". Plus, unless they already knew the guy, they aren't going to let $100,000 worth of gear walk out without some form of payment lined up. (And BTW, not everyone in Newton is a b/millionaire.)
RULE av equipment rental
this company rents a lot of AV equipment to a lot of clients. my guess is this was someone with some inside knowledge of how things are done at Rule. this happened the week after the marathon, these companies rent out a lot of gear for the marathon and pickups and returns can be hectic. my guess is this guy walked in there acting like he knew what he was doing and picked up an order that was waiting for someone else. 100k could have easily been one or two hd cameras.
i also think it might be nick nolte.
fraud
dude it says credit fraud in the post - i doubt a place like that lets you walk in and out without payment. Clearly a fraud issue.
Yeah could be him
Or Scott Pelley
Or is it
Roger Goodell?
It's a rental house
It's not that complex. He showed up with a credit card which worked for the deposit and what appeared to be a valid ID. It's not much more complex than renting a car.
$100k doesn't go far when it comes to professional film equipment. It could have been a camera and a few lenses.
almost looks like an actor
almost looks like an actor one would use for a corporate gig, who would be amongst crews and could learn about the ins and outs of renting.
Um...
...that's Aaron Sorkin.
Didn't know about the store
I'll keep it in mind next time I want to rent a couple of fully rigged Red 8K videocams and lens sets!
That is over 100K right there.
Why does the camera store
Why does the camera store have such a low quality security camera?
Did anyone see...
Gerard Depardieu?
Depardieu
Did start life out selling stolen goods, but he has a bit more weight than the guy in the picture. The forehead could be the same though.

Phil
Phil Hartman has risen from the grave and is doing bunko.
On a more serious note, I'm
On a more serious note, I'm telling you right now that is not natural hair color and the jacket looks looks like he rushed out of his getaway car to put the suit jacket on before walking into the store because his collar is shoved under his jacket. Doesn't look like he is used to wearing glasses either as he's looking up from them. He's trying to make himself look like a Mr. Innocent Man With a Good Job Who Goes to Newton but he could be a guy with naturally dark hair and no glasses who just unloaded the equupment to his Connect and is holed up somewhere for a few days until he runs out and us back on Empty.
That's Jeff Daniels!
