The whole team should stay away
By Ron Newman
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 12:10pm
Why on earth would anyone want to go to this? Much better to concentrate on getting back above .500 (they're almost there) and then chasing the Yankees and Rays for playoff contention.
I disagree

They being honored by the President of the United States for being World Series winners, which is kind of big.
I gotta ask, though. If this were 2014, would you be suggesting that they stay away and concentrate on getting to .500 (a feat they didn't accomplish?)
Actually, they're being used as pawns in the Trump

This is anti-American! Everyone should respect our country and that includes the president. If Alex Cora doesn’t like freedom, he should move to another country. If he were managing a baseball team in Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan would throw him in prison if he pulled a stunt like this.

7/10 troll, needs more “tax-paying real american” references. also a deduction for turkey reference instead of north korea.
Thanks but I disagree with your reasoning

You have to be more subtle, otherwise it’s just mediocre satire. You don’t drop typos, all caps, and over-the-top statements. Instead, you salt it with an exclamation point here, an odd comparison there (Turkey, baseball). Here there were several clues which you picked up on, but as you can see, many others did not.
good point.

Do you hear yourself? Dissent is anti-American? It sounds quite like Mr. Cora is (patriotically) exercising his *freedom* to express these views. Which include not endorsing the backwards, sadistic policy of a third-rate tin pot wannabe dictator just because he somehow ended up with the keys.
If you’re such a fan of blind nationalism, you’re the one who should go to Turkey.

Mon, 05/06/2019 - 1:45pm
Yeah but we live in the US. You know the land of the free. And its because we don't live under tyranny, Alex can exercise his choice not to do so. Its what makes the US great.
We don't have dicators who decide that if they dont like you, they will just throw you in jail. We have due process here.
But of course, if Donald Trump had his way, since he thinks he's QUEENOFFUCKINGEVERYTHING in his pea sized brain of a mind, he would throw Alex (and many of his pundits) in jail also.
You said “Alex”

Do you know him personally? I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case because you know Adam.
Next time you and Adam go out for lunch or a drink, can I tag along?
Sure

Providing you wear a muzzle for the entire lunch.
FWIW I do know Adam personally. Alex.. I wish.. I'd have box seats if I did.
I would rather know Adam than Alex Cora
By Kapil
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 3:42pm
The muzzle is obviously a joke but I take your point. If we all have lunch together, I will pledge to hardly say anything. You can even order for me. Adam has scolded me several times here and I have since dialed it waaay down but I would hate to fall out of his good graces.
Freedom

Your argument:
By exercising their freedom to NOT visit the White House, they clearly do not love freedom! You MUST respect DeAr LeAdEr!

If you don't like his decision why don't you move to another country or just keep dont response.

has to be the most crass, tasteless individual to hold the office in U.S. history. I wouldn't feed a dog the crap he serves to honored guests. With that diet, no wonder he's bloating up like a mango-toned Bibendum.

Doesn't bathe?
By Kaz

I'll have you know, he's constantly in a bath robe wandering around the White House. I'm sure one of those times was after having taken a bath.

Alex Cora could learn a lot from Kim Kardashian
By O-FISH-L
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 3:39pm
If the unlikely Kim Kardashian can easily convince President Trump to grant a pardon to an elderly African American great-grandmother who languished in prison during two Obama-Biden terms, then Alex Cora could certainly establish an open line of communication with Trump on Puerto Rico affairs. As for Puerto Rico's finances, even Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) admits the situation was a disaster long before Trump. A squandered opportunity for Cora, putting politics over his people. Sad.
You forgot two things
By cybah
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 3:39pm
Donald Trump is a Racist
Donald Trump hates brown people
For extra credit..
Donald Trump doesn't even think Puerto Rico is even a US territory...
For those two things alone, Alex could have performed an old Stormy on him and he wouldn't have done a single thing.
I hate to be that guy
By Waquiot
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 3:47pm
But in Fish's example, the reality TV woman got Trump to give a pardon to a "brown person."
There is a logic in Cora going to the White House and a logic in him not going to the White House (as there was when Tim Thomas did the same thing.) But your logic is a bit faulty.
Not far off
By cybah
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 4:02pm
Cora's comment why echo's what I am saying. Donald trump hates brown people.
Great
By Waquiot
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 4:48pm
Except Cora didn't say that Trump hates Brown people, per the quote provided.
Its implied
By cybah

Its implied in how they have been treated since Maria

By Waquiot
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 8:09pm
Cora doesn’t like divorced people. I think I’ll imply that.
The only think Cora said with certainty is that he doesn’t like how Trump dealt with the aftermath of Maria. Anything else is putting words in his mouth.
Except
By Kaz
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 3:59pm
It's easy to get Trump to do whatever you want....like free mid-level drug dealers and money launderers whom he's said he'd rather kill than jail. You just have to tell him what Obama did/didn't do.
"Obama didn't commute this woman's sentence, but I bet you could."
Boom, it's done.
What's Cora going to tell him? Obama ignored the plight of Puerto Rico? No, he didn't.
Question for you
By lbb
Mon, 05/06/2019 - 4:23pm
Question for you: does your polyester bowling shirt get very soggy when you've cried all those crocodile tears for "his people", as if you actually gave a tinker's damn for any of them, or ever believed for one honest second that Alex Cora could successfully intercede with Donald "Puerto Rico has been given more money by Congress for Hurricane Disaster Relief, 91 Billion Dollars, than any State in the history of the U.S." Trump?

A Real Dump
By Daan

Don the Traitor's explanation in 2017 why he spends so much time away from The White House at his golf resorts. A peculiar thing considering he trashed Obama for playing golf when Obama needed some R&R. Not that Obama was administration cost the government the millions for protection that Trump has cost.
What's the point in bringing up Trump's disparaging insult? The White House does not belong to Trump; it does not belong to anyone who is president. It belongs to the nation. Not for nothing that it is called The People's House.
So in that remark Trump called The People's House a dump. He called the nation a dump. He has turned the current iteration of the presidency into a pulpit for calling The United States A Real Dump.
A man who trashes everyone in the nation (unless you are a millionaire) is a man who threw the dignity of the Presidency into the into the garbage, into the dumpster and into the outhouse.
Any Red Sox player who goes to the White House is implying that he doesn't care that the filth in the White House wants to destroy the nation.
