The Boston Fire Department reports that fireworks caused a four-alarm fire on Mt. Everett Street in Dorchester that caused an estimated total of $2 million in damage to two three deckers.
This is the reason we try to warn of the dangers and the damages they can cause. This is why they are illegal.

....a street over , kids trespassed on someone’s lawn and lit them up all night long and nobody cares and if one had called the cops they wouldn’t had responded . They had a lot of other serious stuff last night. Hopefully the parents of these kids knew someone who is now displaced and will prevent their litter from running amok with the contraband they purchased for them. But I doubt it. It Will happen again

So there's the problem, the both kids and adults lit them all night long with no problem. They've seen their friends and the adults light them all night long for years and no problem. Drive through any city and you can barely see the hood of your car because the fireworks smog is too thick.
"It won't happen to me" causes a lot of problems and will never be solved.

Maybe you should talk to an ER person up there before saying such stupid things.
Guy lost his house and some small members of his family a couple of years ago when a bottle rocket went into the family stash under the deck.

You're wrong that this doesn't happen in NH. Here's an unfortunate recent instance which you can google yourself: a few years ago, in Pelham, NH, a little boy was severely injured and sent to the hospital by adults, the boys' family, lighting off fireworks in their own backyard.
Oh really?

As far as I can tell, there is no enforcement at all for the laws prohibiting fireworks. Why not?
(Or do the police stop people from setting them off, just not in my neighborhood? Has anyone seen the police do anything about people setting them off?)

This whole week has been complete chaos. We have had multiple mass shootings. Last night, they sent citywide units to the 6 (SIX!!!) people shot. If you heard what the radio sounded like during that, fireworks would have been the least of your concerns. They were finding victims all over the place and sent multiple officers from all the other districts.
There is absolutely no way we can enforce the litany of crimes that are committed during this time frame, from the uptick to domestic violence, shootings and l overdoses. I have been an officer for over well over a decade and this was one of the worst holidays we have had in a very long time.
Officers are also extremely overworked. All have to work double shifts, some worked triple shifts, which is incredible dangerous for them and the public. Honestly, if we made a fireworks arrest, I’m not complete convinced it wouldn’t be thrown Monday morning either.

After I wrote this I remembered an incident from a fourth from a few years ago when I was assigned to Dorchester.
We attempted to confiscate several fireworks from one of our more active streets, and everyone in the neighborhood came out and turned on us. We got surrounded by a pretty large crowd and had to call in additional units from around the city because people started throwing beer bottles at us. It was pretty frightening.
This week is always taxing. I hate to say it but I don’t know what the solution is. Also please excuse the typos from the previous post. I’ve had to work a lot this week and I’m pretty tired.

Deputize me and all the other cranks who think an hour or two of fireworks on July 4 starting at 8 p.m. is more than enough. I was so mad last night I coulda marched right over there with a mop and started wailing on those midnight bomber idiots, and the cat would have helped me. This resource should be tapped.

...do what many seaside communities do. Let people go down to Tenean or Carson or whatever, at night, light them off at the low water line.
You don't have to make it legal, because it ain't, but if you turn a blind eye, at least the stupid is isolated in a relatively non-flammable environment.
Then bomb the shit out of Bunker Hill.
Doubt it.

'Can MA residents sue NH firework vendors for this?'
First, need standing, like the guy(insert proper pronoun here) that owns the house. Then, need to find the guy (IPPH) that lit off the offending fireworks. Then you have to prove who the vendor was. 'Oh, look. Here's the receipt'. Then...
Did you sell him the fireworks?
Yes
How do you know it was him?
We asked for an ID. He produced a Masshole drivers license, proving he was over twenty one. I took his money, he left.

Do you sue liquor stores and bars for selling drunk drivers alcohol?
You sue the drunk driver. The store and manufacturer isn't responsible for morons misusing a product. The moron is responsible for misusing the product and can be sued by whomever they hurt or damage the property of.
You sue PERSON responsible not the thing or everyone or thing around them.

I don't know about liquor stores, but if a drunk crashes into you, you do have standing to sue the bar that served him too much.

by banning them from advertising on billboards around our city and sending direct mailers to our houses in MA. I feel like somehow this is already illegal but they do it anyways? Threw away several Phantom Fireworks flyers that landed in my mailbox leading up to the 4th. Billboards are found AT LEAST in Codman sq. and off Blue Hill Ave in DOT/ Mattapan. Probably still there right now.
