Police: Woman who's had enough of this crap tries to detain shlub who'd just flashed her on Mem Drive

State Police report they're looking for a man who likely didn't reckon a woman would try to hold him for police after he exposed himself to her while she jogged along Memorial Drive last Thursday evening - or that their interaction would be recorded by a surveillance camera.
State Police, who released a portion of a video of their interaction, around 7:30 p.m. near Vassar Street, report:
The woman pursued the man and attempted to physically detain him while calling for those nearby to contact police.
The man resisted the woman’s attempt to detain him and fled the area, last seen running down Amesbury Street.
The man is described as:
A white male with a heavy build, short dark colored hair, a receding hair line, wearing black and grey running clothes and black running shoes with white soles.

Legally yes.
A citizen can make an arrest if they see someone commit a felony. This was a felony, the citizen witnessed it and tried to make an "arrest".
So I think she is in the clear from any wrongdoing. Good thing we are worried about that here.

Even if it weren't legal...
No cop would arrest, no prosecutor would charge, and no jury would convict the lady unless she was shown to be completely untrustworthy for whatever reason.
Plus cops might have video of the flashing. Lots of good reasons not to release that.
Hope they catch and convict the guy and throw the book at him.

Ohhhh the poor guy...women really aren't smart enough to know when someone is flashing them, harassing them or raping them. I guess it's lucky our bodies have a way of just "shutting down" when that happens. FFS.

So we have a surveillance video that starts one second after he did anything incriminating? Seems weird. You could tell me that it was edited specifically not to show this guys junk, but this is from a distance and they couldn't get any shot of him acting strange? Hopefully the rest of the vid will lead to a conviction and this isn't just a waste of time.

Why is it so important to see?
In any case, legally, they probably wouldn't want to release that part because if the guy is caught, it will be used as evidence against him at his trial, and it's not a good idea to just release evidence beforehand for any number of reasons (start with potentially shrinking the jury pool). So what they released (and I'm kind of surprised they even released the video with the victim in it) can maybe help ID the guy, but won't help his case at all.

And assuming he's charged with open and gross lewdness, then what a prosecutor might want to show the jury is the actual act, i.e., him pulling down his shorts or whipping out his little twig or whatever, because the goal would be to convict him on that. The part of the video that was posted obviously doesn't show that.

The success rate must be very low for this pickup technique- to the extent you could call it that. Maybe if the woman was desperate and the guy looked like Zac Efron, but even then, I doubt this would work.

Sexual harassment isn’t funny, guy. Lucky for you, statistically, it is much less likely that you will be sexually harassed/assaulted in your lifetime than us ladies so you can make a joke of it.
Glad the victim took the time to report it
The victim is a veteran of the Israeli military so it's no surprise she acted appropriately in attempting an arrest on a felony that she knew the suspect "in fact committed." It is also important to note that she reported it to police and surveillance footage was quickly produced.
That's a much better approach than saying, "I didn't have time to stop" but I had time to publish a lengthy piece for public radio about the attack. Hopefully when the suspect is arrested his name will not be covered up like the UMass Vietnam Veteran's Memorial swastika suspect.

That's ridiculous that nobody helped if it got that physical. I could understand someone passing by if it just looked like a verbal argument but this is another case. People need to look out for each other more.
Also the black pickup that passed the camera at 0:08 was the Cambridge SWAT K9 truck that patrols around Harvard Square, too bad he didn't see them!
