Frances Cardullo, owner of the eponymous store, has died, Wicked Local Cambridge reports. She was 68.

I needed marzipan chocolates at the last minute on Dutch Christmas a couple months ago (not for Dutch-Irish-etc.-American me, but for a real Dutch person). Sure enough, Cardullo's had numerous varieties of them in stock.

Upon the suggestion of a friend, I did my Christmas shopping for my parents there when I first moved here in 2003. I've gone in every Christmas season since then.
One year, I found after I left the store that I was erroneously overcharged. I went back in a couple of days later, and spoke to a clerk on a busy Saturday, who told me "we're busy right now, you'll have to come back later to resolve this." An older lady (who I presume was Mrs. Cardullo herself) told the clerk just to refund my money. What a great display of customer service. I'll be making baskets for my parents there as long as I live in Boston.

I'm sorry to hear this. She used to work the register and was always very friendly to me. I ran into her at Boston City Hall once and she recognized me. Her obituary omits that she was transgendered and refers to her as "Francis".

R. I. P. ... I've known Cardullo's most of my life, and will always think of Frank and Frances whenever I shop for chocolate there.

but didn't realize Frank was now Frances. It seems sad that the obituary and the funeral guestbook has about half the people recalling 'Frank' (he) and half recalling 'Frances' (she). I wonder if Frances was not accepted by her family after her change.

Many of her children have worked in the store, or have at some point in the past few years. I would imagine it is mostly a case of if you knew Frank or if later on in life you knew Frances.
