Property damage crimes, theft, and the like, are often split into tiers based on the value of the property in question. MA for example divides felonies from misdemeanors at $1200. He'll also have to pay restitution, and that's a notably expensive planter.

According to online directories, Mr. Pearson lives at 251 West Newton Street, near the corner of Saint Botolph Street. The boundary of the South End has always been at the railroad tracks, now the Southwest Corridor Park.
There has been much discussion over the years about what to call the Saint Botolph neighborhood -- for example is it part of the Back Bay? -- but it is definitely not part of the South End.
