Polite Chelsea bank robber latest to learn that a T bus doesn't make the best getaway vehicle

A Chelsea man was arrested yesterday on charges he robbed a hometown bank in September - while on probation for robbing another bank.

Edward Robert Rezendes, 66, faces up to ten years in federal prison if convicted for the Sept. 10 robbery of a TD Bank branch in Chelsea, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports.

According to an affidavit by an FBI agent on the case, Rezendes walked into the TD Bank branch at 457 Broadway around 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 10 and handed a teller a note reading:

Pleasea [sic], give me the money thank-you.”

Rezendes then walked out of the bank with $3,761 and hopped on a 117 bus into East Boston, which Chelsea Police knew because the teller had slipped a GPS device in with the cash.

Upon receipt of the GPS tracker location information, Chelsea Police Department officers observed the 117 Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (“MBTA”) bus traveling on Meridian Street in East Boston and in the approximate location of the GPS tracker. Chelsea Police Uniformed Officers conducted a vehicle stop of the MBTA bus. Chelsea Police Officers boarded the bus and observed an individual who matched the description of the robber provided by the victim teller.

Chelsea Police Officers removed the individual, later identified as Rezendes, from the bus. Chelsea Police Officers recovered a plastic bag containing three thousand six hundred and sixty-one dollars and a GPS tracking device from Rezendes. An additional one hundred ninety-six dollars was recovered from Rezendes’ wallet. Chelsea Police Officers also recovered a TD Bank checking withdrawal slip from Rezendes. The phrase “Pleasea, give me the money thank-you” was observed written on the back of the withdrawal slip.

Police then brought the teller to Meridian and West Eagle streets in East Boston, where she identified Rezendes as the robber, the affidavit states.

Revere bank robber tried to bribe T bus driver to drive him to Dorchester, but she said no, feds say.

Innocent, etc.

For at least being a good citizen and using public transportation rather than Uber or his own road hogging vehicle as a get away car.

Plus, by not owning a car, someone could easily save $3,761 per year without having to go take it from a bank!

request, no questions asked. Say the perp has a gun and started firing on the other customers because a teller decided to stand their ground.

Plus, did you miss the part where the teller slipped in a GPS transmitter with the money.

LOL the 117.. I mean really. And going *into* east boston. The meridian street bridge could have gone up!

At least going to Revere would have been faster. Actually your best bet would be the 111 to Haymarket... esp at 445 on a weekday, inbound buses are empty!

(i ride this bus often, btw)
