Citizen complaint of the day: We don't need municipal bird feeders

A concerned citizen filed a 311 complaint to ask that the city remove a bird feeder now attached to a city light pole on Chappie Street in Charlestown.
Please remove before it starts to attract rodents.

Rodents, what rodents?
They mean squirrels, don't they? That feeder looks to be one of the allegedly squirrel-proof types. Those feeders select for the most agile and athletic squirrels, and I see no reason to not encourage that, because I like squirrels.
Now, if it were out in Ashby, and the complainant were worried about attracting bears, I'd be on board.
Rats?
Maybe also worried about rats on the ground eating the seeds that get spilled but honestly, that's a drop in the bucket in terms of available food in a city.

Yes, we know squirrels are rodents. Never said they weren't. If they're worried about rats, they worry too much; no rat could get at that feeder.

you'll see a mess from the birds spilling seeds everywhere. They're not the neatest when dining.

From South Boston in particular - people who post 311 complaints about what they consider stupid 311 complaints by other people. I might have even written about one or two in the past, but tend to stay away from them because, honestly, what sort of loser spends any time just browsing 311 complaints?
Oh, wait, let me rephrase that ...
One of the best things about 311...
