Au-pair agency pulls out of Massachusetts

WGBH reports an agency that places foreign au pairs with US families says it will no longer place au pairs in Massachusetts now that federal courts have upheld a state law requiring they be paid at least the state minimum wage. It's a different agency than the one an au pair recently sued for back wages.

The first circuit also includes Maine, NH, RI, and PR. So I assume they are leaving those states as well if they are there.

Au pairs work under unusual
Au pairs work under unusual conditions. They get room and board, and a chance to live in a foreign (to them) country. My cousin's cousin came over from Sweden and worked for a New York Rangers NHL player from Sweden. Not a bad gig.
There's something about economics that makes many minds shut down. People hire au pairs because they can afford them. Raise there salary, and it won't be worth it any more - increase cost, fewer people can afford to buy. Is this difficult? The first article I saw on this subject featured an American couple who couldn't afford day care that allowed both husband and wife to work. So do you really want to put a woman out of work, and keep a young woman from coming to the states to improve her English, in order for you to be a champion of labor?
