T bag searchers snag dangerous asthma inhaler
Mac Daniel gets to watch the T's first random bag searches - conducted this morning in Woburn. He reports:
In the end, there was nothing major to report, except for one man who missed his train after his carry-on issued the morning's only positive test for explosive residue. Transit Police said it may have been his asthma medication.
So memo to asthma-suffering T commuters: Leave for work early. Oh, what was it the T said last week about holding trains for anybody snared in one of their inspections?
Over at mAss Backwards, Bruce wonders if we'll get to see any data on false positives. Also:
... will commuters who miss their train due to a search of their bags following a false positive test be given a Dunkin Donuts gift card if they politely thank the MBTA Police for making them late for work?

The best part of this
Is that the T's running Asthma awareness ads on the trains. "Kids with asthma can ... sleep!"
Adults with asthma can ... miss their train!
I saw a checkpoint set up at
I saw a checkpoint set up at Government Center yesterday.
At least, I assume that's what it was.
It seemed extremely pointless, since if I were a terrorist and I saw a checkpoint and I were particularly concerned about being caught, I would walk the extra block to Haymarket or State and get to Government Center that way.
It's all so very pointless.
