No more takeout at Kelly's at Revere Beach

Just not enough social distancing going on, so the city "encouraged" Kelly's and other eateries along Revere Beach Boulevard to stop doing takeout and all agreed, the city reports.

Also, Mayor Brian Arrigo slowly drove along the beach with a bullhorn, yelling at people to keep their distance. The city reported 83 Covid-19 cases as of today, up from just 8 at the beginning of the week.

they at least should rope off their seating

It's this mindset that drove Italy to the breaking point that it's at today.

This whole thing is very tough on people. We say stay at home! But yes you can go out and get take out and spend a little time outdoors. Yes but not there, there, there or here. With a few places left then it becomes "this would have been ok but too many of you made the same choice."

I do not know what the solution is but there seems to be a combination of people not understanding what the orders really mean, people not taking it seriously and local/state governments being too afraid to just tell people they should stay inside. Right now we have leaders saying "Feel free to spend time outside" but then five seconds later "What are you doing outside?"

It's actually very simple. You can go outside for a walk or run or to pick up some food, but you MUST stay 6' apart. It can be a little tricky but some people aren't even trying. If too many people aren't doing it, we have no choice but to close places down.

Believe me... I've been socially distancing since like January because it was a bad flu season (After my 2 year old nephew projectile vomitted all over me, it was like the exorcist, I decided that I had no interest in getting sick) , not shaking hands, no hugs etc.

I just wish there was a way to coordinate this stuff. I just don't know how we handle this when its warmer outside and we are still under orders.

Like maybe allow "reservations" be made in advance for popular spots. Only allow X amount of people on the beach , on those trails at once.

NH is doing this with Mt Monadnock. They're now requiring a reservation made online in advance in order to hike it.

It makes sense... I just worry, as someone who is overweight myself and am seeing this as an eye opener because that makes you more at risk, that if this goes on for a while and people are not afforded ways to move around that weights will go up, people not moving will cause other issues that will put them more at risk later on in the cycle. I don't claim to have the answers but it will be interesting to see how that works.

With the major businesses on the beach now being closed they could close the BLVD off to traffic unless you have a reservation or have proof of residence etc. That could free up even more space so people can distance out from each other but still get some walking time in. I have dusted off my ellptical and put it right in the middle of the apartment facing out the big window (who cares, nobody is going to see it for months) so that is my solution for now.

...to get your cardio. You just don't.

(of course it would sure help if we could have some better weather than 40 degrees and raining...)

I never said you needed Kellys. I was talking about the 3 mile long streach of prime walking and running space adjacent to it. I do not think anyone ever put carido and Kellys in the same sentence before...

What you said makes sense until you start adding it up. So I don't need those two. How about that city park? Downtown? Just keep taking pieces of land away. I live in a dense urban neighberhood, maybe walking around my block on thin sidewalks is not all that safe right now?

All I am saying is if you don't want people outside walking then just say it...

The post talks about closing Kelly's and the mayor yelling at people who are clustered together. Are you doing either of those things? No? Then go out and do your thing.

You replied to my comment that included a thought that we find ways to let people be outside while still being socially distant instead of just simply giving out vague guidelines then yelling at people when those guidelines are broken.

Especially if this continues for a long period of time, especially if it gets warmer out.

This is a place where government can step up and show leadership by recreating our public spaces to accommodate people so they do not start to break early.

It's really simple. If you go to a place like Kelly's and you see there are too many people starting to congregate, 6 feet apart or otherwise, just leave. What's so hard? Your waistline will thank you for leaving Kelly's anyway.

...seems like a lot.

I guess it won't in a week, though.

There were reports of multiple cases in the Jack Satter House (elderly housing), which is a few doors up from Kelly's.
