We find out why. I'd like to avoid this fate if I could.
If he pleads guilty does he have to say why?

I don't know any details about this, but, working in the area, I suspect this has to do with large number of folks hanging on Mass Ave due to drug-related activities. Ever since the Long Island facility shut down, there is a noticeable increase in this activity on Mass Ave from BU Medical Center to Newbury Street.

For all the tourists, there's definitely an abundance of sketchy and opiated characters in that area. Didn't that blank sort of area on Newbury near TJ Maxx and the Newbury Street exit of the T station have a slang name like the dock or the beach or something?

The beach. And there's nothing touristy at the corner of Mass. Ave. and Newbury. ...unless you think TJ Maxx, Urban Outfitters, Starbucks, the now-shuttered Forever 21, and other suburban chains are unique and special.

Used to call the area nearer Berklee "The Berklee Beach". Wouldn't be surprised if people describe that first section of Newbury as the beach also. It almost has a beach town feel in the spring. Music playing, bike shop, kids hanging around doing nothing, coffee shops with ice cream, drugs...
