Part of South Boston convention center to become 1,000-bed facility for coronavirus patients

Mayor Walsh said today that work has started at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to create an area that can house up to 1,000 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 but who do not need more intensive hospital care.

Walsh said half the beds would be set aside for homeless people who are ill, the rest for other patients who no longer need the sort of intensive care they were getting in a hospital.

He added that the city has created a $3-million fund to help tenants who have lost their jobs pay their rent.

Can you clarify as much as you can: the beds will be for people who are "generally" sick, yes, not those who have been diagnosed w/ COVID-19, correct?

I thought it wasn't for people w/ the virus, no?

But ones who are no longer sick enough to be in the hospital.
