Turkey carves self up by flying through closed window in Saugus

Saugus Police report a wild turkey flew into the second-floor bedroom of a local house this afternoon - by crashing through a closed window.

When officers responded, they found a badly injured bird with glass strewn throughout the room.

Unfortunately, the animal's injuries were such that it had to be euthanized at the scene.

The homeowner was given a police report number for their property insurance purposes, and the animal's remains were taken to the Saugus Police Safety Building for proper handling.

Proper handling involves stuffing, roasting, and basting. And rubbing the skin with oil.

As God is my witness, I thought that turkeys couldn’t fly!

I've seen it before, and honestly it looks more like they're falling upwards than actually flying.

I didn't think turkeys could fly, or fly very well, either. Then just last week I watched one fly about 80 or 100 feet and land on a tree branch 20 or 30 feet up. It started off from a lawn, about 15 feet away from me, although I missed the takeoff -- there were some shrubs between me and the fowl. Very ungainly looking, lots of noisy flapping.

Poor creature.
Birds often fly into windows and are injured one way or another.
