Transit Police didn't arrest anybody Sunday night, but now they want to change that for an incident at North Station

North Station guy

Transit Police report they are looking for this guy "relative to Malicious Destruction of MBTA Property incident," at the North Station Orange Line stop at the height of the smashing and looting Sunday night.

More specifically, police say, around 11:10 p.m., the guy:

Spray painted a substantial amount of FUCK THE POLICE all down the platform area as well as the fare gates. He also spray painted FUCK 12 on the walls.

If he looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-222-1050 or the anonymous tip line at 873873.

Whoever made the decision to close the downtown stations should be fired. The peaceful protestors would have left quietly and later on the Boston Police could have dispersed many of the looters and troublemakers by driving them downstairs onto the trains. Yes there would have been vandalism and graffiti but the T doesn't seem to care about vandals the rest of the year. The job of the Transit Police is to protect the underground. I know that several transit cops were injured and their police cars were destroyed but their mission is to protect the T and the passengers. I feel bad for them but much of the destruction in downtown Boston could have been mitigated by keeping the T open and letting their police force do their job.

Keeping stations open when there are massive crowds is a bad idea. The platforms would quickly gridlock with people, which would block train service.

This is nothing new or malicious. See Copley during the Marathon, etc.

is closed because it's right in the middle of the finish line area. There is no way you could have it open and also have a finish line in front of the Boston Public Library. However, everyone who goes to the event knows about this well in advance.

I doubt the transit police would have had enough manpower to police all of the downtown stations during the height of the vandalism. If left open, this could have led to massive destruction of the fare gates, fare machines, etc. which would not only be costly, but could have led to those stations being down for far longer than that night. Unfortunately this left some peaceful protesters with a longer walk, but open stations were not that far away (though communication of this was likely lacking).

They have over 200 officers, putting even a dozen officers in each of the closed stations instead and you still wouldn't probaly being using much more then 50% of the force. They could have left the fare gates open to facilitate better flow and avoid damage to the gates

Not only did they fail us on Sunday, but just think what else they have done. They cut service at the very time they should have increased it at the beginning of the pandemic when many people were still working and overcrowding was an issue. Then they shut down the Blue Line for two weeks and ran shuttles the very day phase one went into effect and many people were scheduled to return to work. Their history of bad decision making defies belief.

Please take this down. This is a bad look, especially considering what is going on right now. Please cover the cops putting out pallets of bricks instead?

Do you have any evidence of these claims?

It's their cops pulling the bricks.

The police were pulling loose bricks from sidewalks so they WOULDN'T be used as projectiles. That's 2 for 2 for false claims against the Boston Police spreading around the Internet this week. People are on edge enough as it is without false information floating around that people could act upon.

Why would you cover the cops putting out pallets of bricks when the truth behind 9/11 and the JFK assassinations is still unanswered!

Welcome to Boston, friend! I assume you're new here because otherwise you might know that Transit Police have been going after taggers hard for years (in particular, this guy).

So even if there hadn't been any unpleasantries on Sunday, they would be looking for this guy and I'd be posting about it (of course, had there been no unpleasantries, would he have gone down to the platform with a spray can, allegedly?) - same as I write about them looking for people for all sorts of other things, from sexual assaults to stompings.

Why shouldn’t people who do wrong be sought out and apprehended? Reporting this isn’t supporting a police state, it’s good citizenship and it’s ultimately to your benefit.

Or, you know, just wait until the next time some crazy person on the T starts jacking off in front of you or your family and thank them instead.

Maybe if they ever update the version of Blogger (or whatever it is they use). In the meantime, yer ol' Hub has a Facebook share button :-).
