These soon to be fingerless clowns are buying them in NH. Put up a toll to drive into MA already.

The fireworks store was open in Seabrook, NH last week.

Stimulus money well spent?

It was right around the end of May that the booming started in my neighborhood.

they reliably start by 7:00PM down in my part of the city, and run intermittently until midnight. They've been happening every night for the last two weeks or so, because apparently 4th of July season starts six weeks early in quarantine? My 3-year-old can't sleep because he's scared of them, and the adults in the house can't immediately tell the difference between some asshole setting off an M-80 on the Southwest Corridor and the cops opening fire on a crowd of protesters, so...

You're lucky that the fireworks stop by midnight in your area. At the moment we are getting them sporadically, but by the time July 4 approaches in my East Boston neighborhood we have some d-bags who will set them off nonstop from 10 PM straight through until broad daylight. Aside from my outrage at their lack of consideration I also have great bewilderment. I just don't understand what it is about firecrackers that can be of such utter fascination to a person that they will set them off nonstop for that many continuous hours.

But the fireworks seem worse this year than in years past. I've lived in the same area for quite a while now and I've never heard them this loud and this often, all over the place. It seems like the number of complaints is unusual as well: I never look at these tiplines but that is quite a deluge.

I am guessing there are a lot more people cooped up at home that would otherwise be at a restaurant / bar / club (maybe combined with cheaper fireworks due to economic disruption). Either way my poor cats are pretty stressed :(

the sounds of a protester shooting at law enforcement. Or one of the many shootings that have taking place in the city. You know what? You don't want police, you don't get law & order. The criminals find sanctuary. Get used to it cupcake.

Asking for general reforms (and less in Boston than national trouble spots ) doesn’t mean no police, just responsible police.

But by all means shift the goal to something fringe that you can oppose. Or better yet, find the “but Obama was president when...” Angle too so you can justify still doing nothing.

You don't want police, you don't get law & order.

I am sufficiently amused at the 311 complaint that calls for a petition to end the use of illegal fireworks in Boston.

Petitions. Is there anything they can't do?

Can we just get police that don't feel the need to beat the shit out of unarmed civilians and prioritize their own lives over the lives of the residents of the houses BEHIND the assailant they're indiscriminately discharging their sidearm at?

They're scaring my kids too. Put everyone one edge. Funny manner in which to seek to defund police. Cognitive dissonance much? And before anyone says it has nothing to do with the protests, simply watch the NECN footage of the confrontations. Sick of this.

I live near Sennott park in Central Sq. Last night several rounds of massive fireworks went up less than 10 meters from my home. You know, the kind they do for baseball games and 4th of July. If one of those had been pointed the wrong direction, I could have been killed.

When the police arrived (ten minutes after they were set off, of course) they seemed to not even care it was happening. One of them joked, "What we are going to do? They're just kids." Well, the "just kids" are close to burning a house down. Unless they already have. A house on Harvard St was burned last weekend and officials say it might have been due to fireworks.

They come at the same time every night. Why can't Cambridge police send someone to sit undercover until the kids show up. I don't think they need to be arrested, but get their information, give them a ticket and a warning, and hope they never come back.

This is dangerous and our city isn't doing anything about it. What can we do to make our voices heard?

Given the density of housing and the materials they are constructed of, this is actually a big deal -- Last year, two three deckers went up in flames, displacing (read. making people homeless) 20 people. This is all due to the wanton jubilance provided by *illegal* fireworks. Law enforcement doesn't enforce the law and a culture of selective enforcement .....

Something has to change and I'm not sure rioting and looting is the best way to approach.

The 311 dispatchers keep informing those filing complaints that they should call 911 as this is a matter of illegal activity. The 911 dispatchers keep telling callers that there's nothing they can do about the issue without an exact address of where the fireworks are being set off, and/or that there are no cops available to respond to the concern. It's a catch-22, and the result is lots of sleepless nights for many neighborhoods throughout the city.

night for the last couple of weeks, and it's a little unnerving, the initial notion that it might be gunfire.

The posts about this subject on the Nextdoor website were getting nasty, so I shut down my id on that site.

When people complained that they couldn't sleep because of constant fireworks, as early as 3:00 am EVERY NIGHT, the responses were 'get over it, Whitey, these people are oppressed and are acting out their frustrations', etc. Ad hominem attacks (name-calling). Vicious and childish. Typical lib SJW and woke crap.

Ridiculous, All people, all colors have a right to a good night's rest. This has nothing to do with social justice.

I've lived in this neighborhood for 27 years. Adam, I think I live one street over from you. Moved here when few would. Really hate this virtual-signalling nonsense from the new breed of neighbor.

On NextDoor. The issue was the motorcycles at night on the Arborway. It got nasty really fast and I complained. The mods did nothing so I left.

Fireworks all over 02124. Everywhere. All night long.It starts in the daytime and doesnt end until maybe around 3-4 AM Town Field was really bad last night.

911/BPD can't keep up with it but they want everyone to call 911.They will get to it after their "priority 1" calls, if and when they have the personnel. A lot of BPD personnel is working 12-16 hour days in places like downtown.

311 is funny. They handle fireworks complaints in different ways. Sometimes they just tell you to call 911. Sometimes they lecture you about misuse of 311 and tell you to call 911. Sometimes they claim they have forwarded the complaint to 911 but that you should call 911 for future complaints. Both 311 and 911 are clearly overwhelmed.

If you mark the location as City Hall and address it to Mayor Walsh, it seems to take them longer to close out the complaint. I've lived here since the 70s. Its worse than ever.

As I close out this comment, fireworks still going off . Marshall School, I think.

Reading through some of these from tonight, someone copied my 311 complaint from a couple of nights ago. "Gunshots, fireworks, who knows?". Hilarious.

I live in Roxburys Fort Hill neighborhood... honestly it sucks, they started all the way back in March and start before the sun even goes down. I have a ten month old baby and a 12 year old dog.. neither mix well with them to say the least. I’ve lived in Boston 16 years and can’t remember a year like this.

I am not sure what's going on this year. In my nearly 20 years in Fields Corner, I've never seen anything like it. For the past two weeks it's been as intense as what's normally seen in the weekend preceding the 4th of July and we are still 4 weeks away from 7/4. I am afraid it won't slow down until some kid gets his head blown off.

Maybe that's what it will take. Fireworks are illegal in MA. Explosives. If you play with fire often enough, you will get burned.

Probably people will be injured or worse. And it still won't stop the fireworks. Everyone knows Jean Pierre-Paul lost a handful of fingers playing around with fireworks. Fireworks are dangerous and as ever 311 response reminds us: illegal. Neither is figuring into the decision making.

I know this is all proximity to New Hampshire but even in a normal year fireworks in Boston are stressful. And in a normal year I just leave the city the week of the 4th because I know how bad it gets and I don't enjoy that I can't be in my house without a single window open and how close they come to the house. This isn't a normal year. I can't leave my home. I can't go to friends in a quieter part of the city. I can't go shopping or hang out in an air conditioned restaurant for a few hours to catch a break.

We're all trapped; we're all already stressed. Shootings seem like they have been worse this year as well and last night was no exception.

And obviously no elected is going to bother to touch this issue. I can't think of a single solution. If fireworks are constantly imported and nobody has a damn thing to do this shitty situation is going to continue any night it's not raining.

I guess that's all we got. Pray for rain.

In my neighborhood they start around 7pm and have been going until 4am. 4th of July runs from May through September here.

EDIT: Aaaaand the exact spot where they’ve been going off all night tonight is where the shooting just happened On Dale St.

To get out their hoses, super soakers and buckets of water and start dousing the morons and their fireworks.

I have lived in Boston for years. These fireworks start around 7:00PM and can last until 2:00AM every night. Some of us need to work and it is getting exhausting. No one wants to call the cops. I assume it is general restlessness and it being graduation season? Or assholes being assholes.

I've heard them for several nights this week (though not last night) from an apartment at the West Somerville - North Cambridge line. Folks who live in Winter Hill say they are really loud there.

I called 911 three times before anyone showed up when I had the exact address of the group (even small children with the "adults"). And to boot, there's a Boston Police Camera on a pole right outside their house. When the police finally showed up they left a minute later and the whole thing started right back up for two more hours. I guess they are really proud of showing their future gangbanger children how to follow the rules.

I’ve lived in Dorchester for 15 years, with 7 of them on a park, and this is by far the WORST it has ever been. Between the fireworks and the helicopters it’s been very disruptive at night.

The “closed” complaints are responding that people should call 911, not 311. Fireworks are illegal in MA and 311 is for non-crimes. This is what the City is saying, not me.

They don't.

Gee I wonder why people are filing noise complaints and not unleashing the cops on their neighbors?

up

People report it to 311 instead of 911 because it's a quality-of-life and general safety issue that they hope an on-the-ball city government would see and would act on.
Also - old yet ongoing problem - people report it to 311 not 911 because so many of us were raised conditioned to 911 being for emergencies (unfortunately, all real time response/dispatch is through 911)

Lived here almost 30 years don’t remember anything like this. Who the hell is spending all this money on hours and hours of little pop bang shit. Doesn’t it get old? It’s always happens in multiple places too. It’s almost like they’re trying to desensitize us to these types of sounds. Except who are “they”?
