The Boston Rescue Mission is at that address.

... set caused the fire as that section of Kingston is like a giant ashtray and smoker’s negligence is the number one cause of residential fires.

On the roof?
Looking at high resolution aerials, it looks like there is an elevator penthouse at a rear corner. Unless it's one of the stairwells. Could be mechanical, could be human cause.
How?

Would be interesting to know how the fire started on the roof. The Fire Dept. tweet page this story links to doesn't say. Party? Arson? Idiots?
A guess

An elevator motor burned out or short circuited or something.
