Maskless asshole tells Marblehead diners he hopes they die

Guy with sign wishing death on people eating dinner outdoors in Marblehead

5 Corners Kitchen in Marblehead reports an unexpected challenge in running outdoor seating: A right-wing asshole with a sign:

When human garbage enters your restaurant’s outdoor patio WITHOUT A MASK ON to spew his hate-filled, threatening B.S. to your guests... Apparently it’s his 1st amendment right to “protest” by our guests who are trying to enjoy their dinners?? Does your first amendment right surpass public safety?? Sadly, there is little we can do since our outdoor patio is “on public property.” Just another fun aspect of operating a restaurant during COVID-19!!

Among the hashtags on the photo: #PleaseBailMeOutWhenIPunchHim.

Begum Edelman, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband Barry, adds they are looking at how they can keep the guy away from their patio and possibly seek charges against him since he was violating the state's mask requirement for outdoor restaurant seating areas. In response to one fan's suggestion that he would go away if people just ignored him, she writes:

[W]e can’t ignore him when he is potentially infecting our guests and our staff. We have lost too many friends to COVID-19 already.

Protesters with both left and right points of view seem to be employing this tactic of disrupting diners in public restaurants. Some of them are being very vulgar about it. This is not an effective method.

Do you think this guy would have made Uhub (and the Globe) otherwise? He'll get much more press than if he just stood on the corner with his Trump sign.

Same goes with the protesters who go into residential neighborhoods.

In the case of BLM, the protesters have finally found a method that makes people pay attention to them. No idea if it will further the movement. It would be easy to see a conservative supreme court ruling that the right to protest doesn't apply when it's disruptive.

Saying that the riots are caused by BLM is wrong information. There are people on far left and far right that are not BLM doing this.

BLM (and other) protesters have noticed they get more press and response when they peacefully assemble outside elected official homes. And peaceful doesn't mean silent.

It's not effective because the only publicity either side gets from such stunts is negative. The right wing guy in Marblehead is not only an annoying douche, but his lack of a mask endangers people. And the crude and vulgar people disrupting diners in the name of BLM (whether they actually are or not) stop just short of violence in the video I saw and act like high school clowns in general. I guarantee you it does not further the cause.

Both side both sides both sides both sides both sides both sides.

See I repeatedly repeated it. Therefore it must be true because both sides both sides both sides.

Can we just not have anon posts until the pandemic is over?

to those that may share mutual political or social views only weakens your position. There is not two sides of violence or being an asshat to others in a public place. You are either violent or not. You either behave like a decent person or not.

A racist side and an anti-racist side are not two equal sides.

We do not need our daily lives interrupted to say "Go racism!"

We do need our daily lives interrupted to say a black life is equal to a white life until it becomes a reality.

Let one issue pass without comment? Nah.

up
Voting closed 0

If you read the headline, the part of the tweet that's in all caps, the reason why the restaurant says they can't ignore him, and the potential charges - the main issue at hand is that he didn't have a mask on, this endangering patrons. Not to mention him wishing that random strangers would die.

Sounds like you're talking about something different.

A 3 oz. rock in the temple thrown from about 12 feet out.

Everyone has rights, but there is the also the leave me along while I am eating thing.

If Trump and his crazies want anarchy, let's remind them it is a two way street.

I’d like to buy that man a drink. Please serve it from six feet away.

Some BLM Protesters like this tactic as well.

Don't make the fringe of the fringe center your expectations.

In a world where everybody's got a camera (and security cameras more prevalent too), it's easy to mistake very rare circumstances with commonplace ones.

This dip is a one-off. It's almost certainly not illegal, and def. not worthy of a rock to the head.

Bother me and my family while I am eating, regardless of your political leanings (or your mental state), I will you mess you up.

up

I too, do not like being bothered while eating, even by members of my own family, though I'm curious how you plan to "mess up" people who are bothering you in a public place.

A few friends and I got out onto the Esplanade at 7 in the morning for the July 4th Pops. We put our blanket down on a patch of grass in the middle.

We stayed there the whole day, rotating in and out on about the blanket sized piece of real estate.

About 745 in the evening a guy came over to us and pushed the blanket out of the way and said this is public property and I am sitting here and we have no right to it. He was told to F'off but wouldn't move. I got up, he got up. He got pushed down. Staties came, I explained what happened, the Statie carted the guy off while his wife hung her head in shame.

See Brian, there is the black and white of the law, and there is the colorful world of common sense and decency of not letting extremists overrun life.

You are either being naive or just a ballbuster with your question. Welcome to the real world.

Good thing you’re white.

That's nice dear.

Does "not letting extremists overrun life" include extremist cops shooting people in their beds or attacking people legally using a skatepark?

Your nickname should be Old Vinyl because you just keep skipping back repeating the same thing over and over again sounding like scratches and wear and tear on something that had a valid point at one time.

time someone asks a question you won't or can't answer, why don't you just fuck off to whatever 1950s school playground let you loose?

You are the most tedious and cliched kind of troll, the witless Internet Tough Guy.

That just means you don't agree with what I say. It seems the hive mind that some people operate in is very nice, but if you don't agree, that person must be a real meanie. Piss off.

doesn't-run-with-the-pack thinker: that's why people disagree with you.

I'm talking about your pitiful rhetorical crutch of dead-ending arguments with childish insults when you can't come up with a reasoned response. You're like an 11-year-old kid whose drunk of a daddy beats him, so has turned into a malignant, mean-spirited little shit at school, always lashing out with spite: the wounded would-be bully.

Grow the fuck up, maybe find a useful hobby besides hurling juvenile taunts in an online forum where the grownups are trying to talk.

trolls who think ad hominems are a fair substitute for rational argument is their sheer dullness, their delusion that grammar-school warble-garble can get a rise out of anyone over the age of 12.

You're just tedious, the neighbor five doors down blaring bad music at 3am, the alleged adult who never got the memo about civil behavior in public. Modestly irritating, like a mosquito, just barely above the level of completely ignorable noise. Nobody likes mosquitoes, but there's something faintly amusing about the mosquito that thinks it's a big bad bee.

Sounds like you initiated physical contact, which could have had a very different outcome -- one in which you didn't get to sit back down on your blanket and enjoy your picnic.

BLM protestors are wearing masks and protesting against racism and homicidal cops. This guy is potentially spreading a deadly virus and protesting against science.

Harassment is harassment.

I don't care if he was advocating for more flower boxes in Salem. Leave me alone.

I will agree with you that the BLM protesters in Rochester were wearing masks, but they also physically assaulting people by going to people's tables and ripping up things. Wiggy of Marblehead isn't there yet.

PS - Your chauvinism to the point of hysteria is on open display again.

up
Voting closed 1

A few agitators at the protest did this. It was not all of BLM and BLM was actually telling them to stop.

up
Voting closed 0

You make a generalization about me being white above and that is the reason for me not being arrested. Thus, an all covering generalization.

Then you try to explain away a few bad apples in Rochester, saying it was just a few bad apples causing trouble.

You should change your name to Janus, because you are bit two faced.

Intrigues me. The guy must have put in a lot of effort to make it. Did he print it up at Kinkos? If so, I wonder what the Kinkos clerk thought. Did he buy it at the local MAGA Discount Outlet? Did he print each word in a huge font and tape sheets of paper on the big posterboard? Wherever it came from, it took some planning. After all, he could have simply whipped out his black sharpie and scribbled it in about 10 seconds. Though there wouldn't be any spell check.

up

Does Kinkos still exist? I think it went the way of Copy Cop. And think what a dilemma copy cop would be in with a name like that now.

up

Horrific but constitionally protected.

up
Voting closed 0

Constitutionally protected, but still subject to fire laws. And if he decided to do so on a public sidewalk next to a restaurant seating area?

up
Voting closed 0

Unless this man has proper permits for a protest - since he is reportedly blocking the public sidewalk, and also seems to be amplifying sound (his voice), his protest requires a permit under MA law - I propose that disorderly conduct charges are indeed proper here. Threatening patrons, along with behavior that is noisy, offensive, dangerous, annoying, or alarming to others is all punishable under Massachusetts General Law.

In other words: lock him up! (The penalty is a fine, actually. Fine him up!) America is, indeed, still a country of laws; let's use them properly.

A public sidewalk can serve multiple purposes, lawfully, when allowed by the democratically elected representatives of a municipality.

This guy has been around Marblehead for years, at least three that I have lived here. He usually just stands on the sidewalk with his sign. Haven't seen him in over a year, but I guess he is back now that Trump lost (or he got paroled). Looks like six more weeks of winter!!!
