Someone want to get back to me on how they don't matter in this city's economy anymore?

I don't care about this tourist place but the Water Street report in the Globe yesterday was heartbreaking. I did my part. I've got receipts to prove it. How about you?

I'm confused... are you blaming suburbanites for restaurants closing since they're not driving into the city to get takeout?

I feel like it's pretty clear the local economy is taking a hit in general, without any need to point fingers.

We are the ones that come into the city to work and spend money so that you can have tax revenue for bike path plowing.

Suburbs are doing ok. Most of the restaurant closures are in Boston and Cambridge.

I wonder if rent prices have anything to do with that?

Nah, it must just be that suburbanite spending. That's gotta be it.

Coolidge Corner has rents 1/2 of Newbury and similar to downtown if not higher. See a lot of vacancy in CC? Nope Rents downtown are the same as Brighton Avenue in Allston. See a lot of vacancy in Brighton Ave and Harvard Street, Nope.

Try Harder.

No one with the name of a failed bus company with a horrific safety record should be commenting on business matters FYI. It is like starting a chastity group and calling yourself Pussycat Theatre.

Nothing to do with the issue at hand but that username makes me smile every time. I used to get such a kick out of reading about FungWah Woes I was actually thrilled to pass a bus on the highway once. I even took a picture.

It's the little things.

Your right to free speech is hereby revoked.

Also, when you have a moment, I'd like to have a word about my smoldering luggage.

I assure you that full service restaurants in the suburbs are hurting just as much as in the city. They just don't get the same press.

I’ve seen a lot of takes on this site, and this is certainly one of them.

For the likes of Max Brenner, the issue is beyond those from the suburbs not coming in. Lots of tourists and conventioneers in the area typically, so that is something that drives business at the local restaurants. Other than them, those who visit the Back Bay from both the city and suburbs are affecting business in the area.

Either way, even though I never set foot in the place, it is sad to see the business shut down. The Back Bay businesses are probably praying every night that the vaccines are distributed quickly and infections plummet to next to nothing. It's kind of a ghost town there.

Made my first visit to Zaftig today. Took me long enough. Hell, it was several years after I'd been in an actual zaftig for the first time.

I live in East Boston, and order takeout/delivery from local Eastie joints weekly. I know plenty of other city-dwellers also supporting their neighborhood spots regularly.

Good on you for supporting Boston businesses and all, but you should take notice of the ‘horses prohibited’ signs on 93 before you keep riding that goddamn high horse in and out of town.

I'm talking about downtown.

If you are in Eastie, take a jaunt up to Piccollo Piatti in Winthrop. They just expanded and the food is great.
