"The Nashville Hot from Highland Fried in Inman Sq really blew my mouth up"
I can attest to that. It's just a chicken wing appetizer but if you're looking for an inexpensive capsaicin high then go for it. Price doesn't include the three beers you'll need to wash it all down. Possible side-effects may include sweats, chills, abdominal pain and disco inferno the following day. Consider yourself warned.
If you're willing to go to Newton, Tri-City Wings has an amazing Nashville hot chicken sandwich special on Tuesdays (Koko's hot chicken sandwich). Seriously, it's really good.
And it's just barely in Newton. It's practically in Watertown, which is basically western Cambridge, which we all know is part of Boston.
But On Deck Burger Bar at Encore has a bottomless wing deal Mon-Thurs for $25.00, Mango Habanero will have you asking for more drinks. Social distancing there is quite good.
I know it's not cool to recommend chains generally but I had a fantastic Nashville hot chicken sandwich at Smith and Wollensky in seaport back in November. Not sure they still have it, but it rivaled the one I had at a trendy place in downtown Nashville last year just before the pandemic. Ive been craving it for a few months now... In fact I might treat myself.
It's an extra-extra-extra spicy fried chicken preparation - the heat is in the breading and then also in an oil-based sauce that goes over it. Legend has it that the inventor, tired of her man cheating on her, tried to punish him by making his fried chicken impossibly spicy, but he loved it. Became a national trend a couple years back.
Both JM Curley on Temple St downtown and Bostonia Public Houde on State St have killer Nashville hot ck sandwiches and are still open! Certifiably soooo good!
I tried the Nashville Hot at Buff's Pub and while they make a killer buffalo wing, the Nashville Hot variation was not good.
I also tried the Nashville Hot version of Brato's wings and it was god awful and not even "Nashville Hot" style. I just looked at their menu and it doesn't appear they're still offering it (they only have "Brighton Hot" chicken now). So they either got the message or they've renamed it because people complained it didn't match expectations based on the name. Not sure which.

$25 per person......
For wings???
Yard House
I recall having the sandwich version. Non offensive, but I also have no experience with the real thing, so I can’t speak to authenticity.

That sounds like the most easily accessible option.
Thanks for the tip! Can anybody vouch for the authenticity?

Nashville hot chicken in Boston
Koko's Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is the best I have had locally. Pity they only serve it on Tuesdays.
The one at Baramor in Newton Center is also really, really good.
The Upper Crust in Brookline on Harvard has a decent one, as does the YardHouse in Fenway.
Highland Fried, all the way.
Highland Fried, all the way. That stuff is weapons grade--order it on the side. Saying that as somebody who puts hot sauce on everything.
I second Highland Fried
It's absolute agony to eat. Yet still I crave it. They're keeping the spirit of Hell Night alive with that chicken.
I've never heard of it...
I'm very parochial. What exactly is Nashville Hot Chicken; is it fried?
It's an extra-extra-extra
