Was also the name of a great pool hall, gone since at least the mid 2000s, in an alley off a rotary by Fresh Pond. No idea how I originally stumbled across it in the early 90's; the sign was only visible from the road if you happened to be looking to the side while in the rotary. Two levels, maybe 15 pool tables.
Any other oldtimers remember this place? Was it a later incarnation of the bar on Mass Ave?

it was the Cambridge Police Department, which somehow came to believe that it had jurisdiction in such matters. I don't think it involved a liquor license, more like a license to operate, period.

The article doesn't say which particular license this was. But the Commission handles liquor licenses, so if they disliked the name, they could make an issue out of the liquor license or any of the other licenses they issue.

I saw a man insist on drinking from a prosthetic leg.
The bartender said he couldn't serve directly in the leg, but would sell him the individual pints to with what he wished.
Turns out you can fit a lot of beer in one of those, and I guess they don't leak much.
This was mid-afternoon.

It was our go-to after-work spot in the early 2000s, it's where my 30th birhday suprise pub crawl ended up, and it's where I saw Papi crush the HR to end the 2004 Angels season and set up the Yankees series. It's been too long and now never again. Dammit.
