How much is Boston Magazine worth to you?

BoMag, to make it seem like we're all media insiders here, says it's starting a paywall on its Web site - you can read four articles for free each month but after that, you'll be asked to sign up for a monthly subscription. But, bonus, that subscription will also include a copy of the print magazine once a month.

Seems perfectly sensible
Giving away 4 articles a month is reasonably generous and keeps their content available for linking to outside sources like uHub. If you're reading more than 4 stories a month you SHOULD be paying for their content.

...they (and I) can't believe that Boston magazine even still exists. What year is this?

They're going to lose everyone outside their most dedicated readership. Really wish there was some sort of paywall package deal you could sign up for; would make sense for people (Redditors etc.) who like to read from a wide variety of sources but have little loyalty to any single source. That, or microtransactions. This current system with a mosaic of fiefdoms just motivates people to use workarounds (incognito mode, cookie deleters, outline.com, etc.).

I gave up on Boston Magazine
after they were pressured into not covering things that people didn't consider positive with their "10 (insert category here)" lists. Like "Ten worst pizza places in Boston", 'Ten last finishers at the Boston Marathon", "Ten most overpriced bars in Eastern Massachusetts, and such.

pretty much is my average so it works for me. I don't need the "Best Schools in Boston" crap as well as renovation porn.

Love their content. I've been a subscriber since 2010, and have received the magazine in Pennsylvania where I currently live since 2012. Also a subscriber to their sister publication Philadelphia Magazine.

get mixed up, and read one when you think you're reading the other? And, if so, can you tell the difference?

Stylistically they come from the same vein for sure, but what's wrong with that? The content is great and informative, and I feel like I'm staying up to date with certain aspects of daily life in Boston and Philly. To address your concern over the potential confusion, I can read English, so telling the difference between the magazines isn't nearly as difficult as you might think.
The negativity from some of the comments here is hilarious... if only there were some way for these people to not read the magazine. If I think of a solution, I'll let you guys know.
