It's still the 1950s in Lowell, it seems

On his own live TV show this morning, an elected Lowell School Committee member felt the need to call a former administrator a "kike." The Jewish Journal has the story - and the video.

" I hate to say it."
No you don't. Shame!
The Reincarnation of
Dapper O’Neil.
Channeling
His speech patterns. hand-gestures and mental rambling give evidence that he was channelling a living former office holder.
yeup
took the words right out of my mouth.

I wonder
I wonder what he calls Blacks and Latinos (and others) when he thinks they can't hear him. Or even when they can.
Methinks a resignation is in order.
Lowell Sun reports he did "apologize" on air...
About 15 minutes later, when the seemingly comatose cohost DID bring up what he said, and someone texted him. He compared himself to Archie Bunker, then went on to defend patrons at Cobblestones who
“would call former Lowell Superintendent Salah Khelfaoui “an Arab that can’t get along with women,”
and pointed to himself asking whether "white lives matter”.
The article quotes the show's producer defending Hoey, so I think the cable media company will be called upon to take action. The Mayor has called on Hoey to resign.
Check out the article (link in Ron's post below) for more of Hoey’s enlightened opinions on topics such as Lowell’s Indian-American Community, diversity at the high school, equity, etc.

Lowell School Committee member uses anti-Semitic slur on local TV program.
The Sun article, unlike the Jewish Journal and Universal Hub, does not directly identify the offensive word.
Good morning, and
thank you for posting the link.
The Archie Bunker defense
Anyone who thinks Archie Bunker was a role model needs to go back to their cave and stay there. In 21st-Century America, these people are trying to drag us back 180 years.
These people need to talk to
These people need to talk to Norman Lear. Archie Bunker was never a role model. The point of the show was that he was stuck in the old days with outdated ideas and he clashed with the newer generation like Meatball and Gloria (who weren't always right either).
I mean, there's no defense for saying anti-semitic slurs but this particular defense is extra stupid.
Yes!
yes! in fact... we need to bring back All in the Family to show how awful this behavior is.
One of the best ways to fight racism is to call it out when you see it. Having him on TV would help people identify it in real life, and hopefully call it out.
As if
The mentally-damaged Trump diehards would not get the message. After all, they've pledged fealty to a man who's actually worse than Archie Bunker. He'd be another hero to them.
Hey, um. Guys?
It is STILLthe 1950's for 70+ million Americans.
This isn't an aberration. Their hoods are off, permissions been granted, so let fly with the hatred and violence.
Maybe he misspoke...
Wait...
Nope, that pretty much clears that up.
and
So, that's what he called him behind his back.
They sure like to tell on themselves.
Sometimes old cows......
just need to be put out to pasture.
I think that is the case here.

It's still the 1950s. 1960s,
It's still the 1950s. 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s in Lowell. It seems some things will never change.
Wow
He forgot the part where people didn't say such things on TV, just "behind their back".
Somebody needs to go live in the drawer of a natural history museum.
Accent
How come the last of these old time white good old boy politicians always have that weird accent? It's an unusual manner of speaking.
When they go high, we go
When they go high, we go Lowell.
Meanwhile....in Revere
Newly elected City Council President Tony Zambuto (R-Wheelabrator) said on video that Muslims in Revere have to be taught not to throw trash in the streets like they did in their home countries and hello...anyone there?
Gotta love the fickle social media outrage machine!
The difference is perhaps better local media coverage in Lowell?
Something like this happens in Lowell, and you'll read about it in The Sun. Does Revere have any decent newspaper these days?
