The couch has the same sort of design as the cushions that are all she has left.
Beatrice lives on Ripley Road in Dorchester and reports she just got delivery of a new couch, a few days before she was due to move, so figured it didn't make sense to bring it inside and left it on her porch. You can guess what happened.
I got a custom made $4000 couch from Lexington Furniture and I’m moving in a few days so I put it on the porch and someone stole it. I still have the cushions and everything I’m heart broken and haven’t been able to stop crying please if anyone has seen someone with a couch that has this pattern color etc let me know ASAP I will be making a police report tomorrow morning and the my neighbors has offered to let me view their cameras but I need all the help I can get please please please if anyone has any information let me know ASAP stolen on Ripley Road!!!!!!

Imho, it's highly doubtful that somebody would've stolen the new couch from the poster's porch if they thought it was trash and therefore not worth stealing. It's really shitty that people either don't or can't have new and decent things, and they take liberty and license to go and rip it off of the next guy or gal. That sucks.

The most shocking part of that story is that someone living in Four Corners would buy a $4k couch -and then leave it on their front porch. As a long time Dorchester resident, my moto is that if it's not locked up or properly chained up, someone is going to think that it's a "donation".
Once you get used to this idea it's actually not that bad these days. Even where I live random house robberies and break-ins have become a rarity.

When I lived in Dorchester I was throwing out an old fridge. I took the doors off first for safety and my roommate and I carried the fridge out to the curb leaving the doors upstairs. We went back in to get the doors and when we got back outside the fridge was gone already. It was to most amazing thing I've ever seen. We only lived in a triple decker, couldn't have been gone longer than 2 minutes.
Still nobody should take something from a porch, but yea I would have expected anything on my porch to go missing as well.

Who drive around the evening before trash pickup looking for stuff. When we got a new stove, I was taking the old one out when a guy in a pickup stopped and he helped me get it down the stairs and then I helped him get it in the bed of his pickup.
But a couch on a porch? That's a bit different.

Just to clarify, we suspected it was those junk guys who grabbed the fridge. Rereading what I wrote it might come off as if I was implying it was stolen. The speed at which the junk guys got the fridge was what was most impressive. I actually love that about the dot, it was so easy to decide to declutter because putting stuff on the curb usually meant someone would take it rather than it going to a landfill.

Same. I dont leave anything out front, even for a few moments. I was working on a ladder with some tools on the front. Every time I went inside, even for a few moments, the tool bucket went with me.
I've just had stuff walk off within minutes previously.

Yes. Chain it down. I installed 4 U hooks into my back deck to chain all my patio furniture down. People look at me like I am strange but...
A few years ago I had a plastic chair (just one single chair) for when I smoked. (I'd go out back to smoke). Someone scaled the side of the fence & porch wall, and took it. A plastic chair.
People are strange. So I won't take any chances with metal patio furniture.

Maybe it was for the best because good Lord those cushions gave me a stomach and headache. I don't know what on God's green earth someone's gonna do with just the couch frame. Well, I guess they could just buy some more cushions in...I dunno, any color of the rainbow?
Next time set it up for delivery at the new place for the day of move in or the following day.
It's not right for anyone to steal people's stuff but there are opportunists everywhere.

From my fenced yard in Dorchester. It sucked because I had had a party the week prior and it was easier to entertain on the front porch and grill in the driveway and I decided I’d leave it there for future grilling as my back yard wasn’t easily accessible. Figured it’s a fenced yard with gates and that should dissuade anyone from thinking it was trash, but I was wrong. I never replaced it but if I had, I’d have chained it to the fence. I now live near methadone mile and won’t get deliveries here as things don’t last on the stoop, I’d be willing to bet one of Beatrice’s close neighbors has her couch. When we were kids, we brought home someone else’s life’s possessions because they were on the curb and thought they were throwing it away, but turns out they were moving. I thought it was funny, but my sister was mortified and refused to help bring it back but that was a curb, not a porch. Poor Bea. I think she’s lost this one

That could very well be, since at least as often as not, people do steal stuff from their friends and neighbors, as well as strangers.
