NOT ART
NOT ART
I would be delighted
if someone put up a huge "NOT ART" mural. Maybe the stenciled black letters on some kind of colorful background?
Now, that would be art!:)
Now, THAT would be art!
:)
Not art yet, at least.
It's not finished.
I've been underwhelmed by most of the works commissioned for that wall but very glad it's being used for public art irrespectively.
The Greenhouse Never Materialized
Because the Mass Horticultural Society blew it, and the Pols and Real Estate interests preferred to see popup beer gardens and food trucks.
Not just the Pols and Real estate
Those of us who work in the area very much like the food trucks and pop up beer gardens.
You live or work nearby?
Speak for yourself.
Speak for yourself. Many of us who work .... and live nearby don’t.
You speak for yourself
The fact that they are all very popular with local workers, with huge lines and waiting times in the beforetimes means that, well, they are very popular with local workers who don't happen to be you.
Got numbers on how many fellow haters there are? They clearly had more than enough business to be long-term sustainable when people are actually in the office.
I'm still waiting to hear why this is all mutually exclusive with a greenhouse. Seems to be plenty of room for the regular farmer's market there.
Wait, did we have a chance at a huge greenhouse?
That would have been *amazing*. I mean, the greenspace is great as it is, don't get me wrong, and I spent many a lunch break out there when I worked downtown. But a big greenhouse would have been a rare treat -- every time I travel through DC, I make sure to stop by the US Botanic Gardens greenhouse. It's wonderful in the winter.
My thoughts as well.
A greenhouse with a few food trucks would be ideal. The beer gardens just add to the noise level.
Yes, a greenhouse *was* the original plan
All of the Greenway land from Dewey Square up to the ramps at Rowes Wharf, except for the vent building (where the murals are now), was supposed to be managed by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
I'd have loved that, too
Winter is so awful - but I don't know why this isn't a both/and situation with the food trucks. Grab lunch, eat while wandering the greenhouse. All good.
So
Better ideas?
This gets changed regularly, BTW. You could volunteer to vet the next one.
Naw ... too much like work.
You ever see this up close, anyway? I do when my workplace is open. Some installations are better than others. All are better than a blank wall.
I'm happy to see
that it's something colorful! Some of the recent ones have been grey or other dull colors and it's just too similar to the surrounding cityscape, other artistic merits aside.
Magoo sez
Magoo wonders if that is a picture of a chooch plant. Wacky tabbacy if Magoo will. Magoo.
I am LOVING that FABULOUS
I am LOVING that FABULOUS palm tree! YES!! Fully vaccinated and READY to DISCO like 1977!!! I can't wait!!
Just a houseplant, yeah?
Looks like the center of focus is a standard issue houseplant on an otherwise staid dining table.
We live in exciting times.
OMG! Nature is healing!

Greenway Mural
Over the years I've taken interest in watching these go up. The end result is sometimes very nice and sometimes not so much.
It's all a matter of one's taste I guess. I do like how they switch them up.
Needs a livecam
For the once a year/every other year that they paint the new mural, they really need a livestream of it for the few weeks that it's going up.
