Vacation Man vs. the Flip Flopper

Deval Patrick likes his vacation days. But potential opponent Tim Cahill is like a well-oiled weathervane. The Outraged Liberal says if he has to choose next year, he'll take the well-rested incumbent:

... Conjure up all the stereotypes you want, but the decision by then-House Speaker Sal DiMasi to dispatch Ways and Means Chairman John Rogers and Quincy representative and Cahill friend Ron Mariano to chat with the treasurer has Hollywood overtones. ...

OK I understand mistakes were made, and some people abused the pension system. I think we all agree on that!

I think the problem is this solution is take a contract (a contract some of these people made years and years ago mind you) and turning it on its head. It is one thing to say from now on, but to make these things retroactive, thats unfair.

I get a kick out of it, everyone always makes a big fuss about how much the legislators make. While I would love to make 60,000 a year it is not all that much money in the whole scheme of things, heck in some towns its not even average. Now I do understand that it is in theory a "part time job" but lets be honest here, look at when the mandatory meetings happen. Its always during the day, often times all day, sometimes just in the early morning and late afternoon. In addition to these meetings a good representative will go to community meetings, events, and informal meetings with other law makers. Let me ask this simple question, how many professions would allow an employee to skip out of work on a whim because a meeting was just scheduled for tomorrow? I can think of a few, mostly lawyers who work for themselves, thats it. In addition what about the lawmakers from the Western part of the state? How would they possibly hold down a normal job and this "part time" job. I think its time to lay the idea of overpaid politicians to rest, its when they move up into the actual machine (which is run by Deval Patrick BTW, at least right now) that the real money comes in, just ask Marian Walsh who was almost there.

If we want to treat them like part time employees then we need to cut their hours, cut their calendar and as a collective group be understanding when they do not show up to community events and meetings.

Cue the theme music - na na na na... Vacaaaation Man,na na na na... Vacaaaation Man. The power to fly to distant lands for weeks at a time with a state police escort, more powerful than an oversized Escalade stuck in Easter traffic on the Mass Pike, faster than the state legislature pushing through the latest tax hike...na na na na... Vacaaaation Man!

Don't blame me, I voted for Muffy.

I'm picturing Frank Gorshin playing Tim Cahill, only instead of question marks on his suit, he has weather vanes. Moving weather vanes, like the spots on Rorschach's mask.

Tim Murray Staycation man (big CC on his chest for Cape Cod)? And Deleo the Penguin and Therese Murray Catwoman? The tophat on Deleo I can see, the Senate Pres in skin-tight leather - not so much.

I'm still waiting for the "Patrick Agenda." The visionary guy who ran a transformative campaign and who won my support quickly morphed into someone quite ordinary.

He is pushing things, but in all the wrong places. I'm not quite sure what he is thinking.

What agenda? He just kind of said "Hi, I'm Deval Patrick, and the key plank of my platform is that I'm not associated with Mitt Romney in any way, shape or form."

Hell, that was enough to get me to vote for him. Hell, running against the legislature will probably be enough to get me to vote for him AGAIN. To say they've been pissing me off with their flailing is putting it mildly.

The premise of the Patrick vacation article is laughable. A lack of scheduled ribbon-cuttings does not equal a vacation day...and yet we are told it does because? Oh, right, because when the governor is actually on vacation, there's a lack of scheduled ribbon-cuttings on his calendar. Amazing powers of logic there. Truly, the Globe must be saved at all costs; there's simply nothing to replace this sort of investigative fire.
