Pension abuse: Not just for legislators

Michael Jonas explains "termination pensions" for state employees - which let some get pensions in their 40s - and how both the governor and the legislature are ignoring the issue (oh, and Tim Cahill, too).

While I know about the political system itself, then pension thing baffles my mind.

Under the new proposed systems if someone is in the system for 25 years then gets kicked out of office, can they then come back and collect the pension when they are 65? It sounds like they can currently pick it up in their 40's which seems silly. After all a pension should be for retirement, or because you can no longer work, most of these people will easily find more work, work that pays more then their relativlely meager state lawmaker salaries, and if not shame on them they obviously were not doing their job well in the first place then.
