Rachel Miller, who owns Nightshade Noodle Bar in Lynn, has been requiring would-be diners to show proof of vaccination. She reports she's been getting blowback, at least online, and tells the losers they can just stop now because she's not changing her mind:
I am not here to engage with all your backwoods perspectives bringing up hepatitis and your “lawyer” and the Holocaust and whatever other bullshit you think you came up with to intimidate me. People like you are a huge part of the reason restaurants can’t find staff right now. Nobody wants to deal with you. Nobody wants to feel threatened, by attitude or lack of vaccine, at their job. We are all doing our best and don’t deserve to feel unsafe or uncomfortable at work. The policy is not JUST ABOUT YOU or JUST ME. This is about RESPECT, FOR EVERYONE, AND PUBLIC HEALTH.
I’m so tired of this conversation. My house, my private business to do with what I think is right, my rules. End of story.
Still, she continues:
[A]ll of you broken records from hell repeating each other over and over with your selfish views on masks and vaccines are the reason why we are still in this shit show. Do you think after getting annihilated and surviving all that restaurants have been through for 17 months of the shut down, that we want to welcome YOU, who helped to keep our faces in the mud, into the dining room to breathe on us and each other and flex your “freedom”? Give me a break. Freedom comes with responsibility. We too, have “freedom” then and if you can only process thoughts based on that one big word- understand that we are free to serve whoever we want to, not serve anyone we don’t want to and for the most part do whatever the hell we want within legal reason and SO WE HAVE A VACCINATION POLICY. You don’t like it? You’re free to walk your ass the other way.

I'm totally on her side of this argument. But I'm a bit put off by all her anger. I hope this doesn't extend to how customers following the rules are treated in general.
Plenty of businesses with mask and vaccination requirements are polite but firm, and it accomplishes the same thing. Maybe it even accomplishes more, by convincing a few people on the fence that getting vaccinated is a good idea, instead of just hardening their hostility on the other side of the issue.

Totally makes sense, but as she put in her original posts, this was more a response to the undue harassment that is currently being lobbied at establishments that have a policy such as hers.
The second it's public on Facebook, these businesses get inundated with fake reviews and harassment from people who usually have never been customers, if they even live near the restaurant.

We've had months of data of people not having serious ill effects from the vaccine and it's FDA approved - why do we constantly need to accommodate the people on the fence? Fuck em, they are provably stupid people harming all of us by not getting the shots.
There is no practical difference between someone who 'just isn't sure' and the MAGA lunatics but we're all being asked to consider the feelings of the former like they're small children having a bad day.

Your reaction was to tone police? To make the stale old "tut tut you're just alienating people" bullshit argument that, gosh, if you were just NICER you'd persuade people who have been stubbornly stupid in the face of gods know how much niceness, kindness, accommodation, scientific and medical expertise?
And then to make a totally unwarranted leap to conjecture that her anger might at some point be directed at people who are not doing the thing she's angry about?
Guess she's just an emotional, out of control, angry woman then.

The "ass" in old-timey sayings like "don't be an ass" refers to a jackass i.e., donkey, not to part of human anatomy. The other "ass" in US English is what the brits call "arse".

Like many people thought, natural immunity is better. Granted the article states having had Covid and getting at least one shot is better, the point remains. People who have had and recovered from Covid should not be forced to get vaccinated.

What excuses were you using two days ago, before this study was made public?
This isn't news
By Kaz
Fri, 08/27/2021 - 11:20am
This is the same as nearly every other virus and vaccine and is not evidence for hesitation.
The point of a vaccine isn't to do better than natural immunity or even the same as. It's to provide you enough immunity to avoid likely developing an infection while not having to experience the virus that might kill you in order to do so. Then, we can do that in enough people by injection much easier than spreading the virus around and losing a percentage of the population doing so. The end result is the virus can't find hosts to turn into viral load factories to spread itself and disappears.
AND because the vaccine is a standard (the same protein teaser to everyone's immune system), then we can much better predict the response in the population. If you recover from COVID-19, getting the shot is harmless at worst and provides the same standard protection as everyone else, that you *might* not have gotten from your infection, at best. So they should get vaccinated because you can't *know* that your immune system picked up on the natural infection well. This study just says that many do. And again, that's not really news in the immunity game. You shouldn't bet your life on it either.
