Signs all over Chinatown.
From Neponset Circle to Chinatown, agitated citizens are filing 311 complaints about those stupid yellow "forced auction" signs that have sprung up in recent days. One person even walked around Chinatown to take photos with which to urge the city to take down the "P.O.S." signs.

I seriously doubt they are auctioning off Picassos. That's not the kind of think that advertises with cheesy yellow signs taped to poles.

Can we have a real journalistic investigation on whether these auctions are legit, or are they for BU students?

I want to be surprised that these criminals don't get arrested and shut down (given there's a physical spot to go and pick them up), but not naive enough to think the police care about this sort of fraud.

Back when I followed auctions in the 80s and 90s more closely this type of ad would show up in papers with some regularity. Not every week, but definitely multiple times a year. I don't remember Lamborghinis, but Picasso was so prolific that it was plausible that one could just show up.

I remember this sort of stuff plastered everywhere when I was just getting into high school. That, and empty anchor stores full of sleazy flea market vendors.

is to get the city to take some kind of action to keep the signs from being put up at all (which would be pretty hard for some random citizen to do).

I'm sure whoever was paid by the sign to put them up would appreciate the opportunity to put more up.

I was all over the place this weekend and saw these signs everywhere outside of Boston. It makes you wonder how much they make off of the scam if it is worth all the time and effort to put so many signs up. Unlike a scam email this takes significant time, expense and resources.
