Report from the blast zone
Alfred Nylund lives near the ink plant. He reports:
... My windows were blown in and there was a weird glow outside like dusk, or a solar eclipse, only with an eerie red tinge. Just across the river, where the chemical plant once stood, there rose 300 feet into the sky a mushroom cloud. It's no wonder that people thought that this was the end of it all... World War III, and they ARE nuking small town America, just like "The Day After" said they would! Only no Steve Guttenberg running around like an idiot.
People wandered the streets checking to see if their neighbors were alright. Closer to the blast zone, these wandering people were the walking wounded. It was a surreal experience.
Every house on my street sustained significant damage ...
Michael Agri videos the fire - and captures commentary from other residents watching the inferno:
Craft Diva reports on the scene after the initial blast woke up her family:
...then the cars start coming...all of a sudden its like mid day traffic in front of the house. Police, fire, ambulance, town trucks, electric company etc... then the unmarked cars, detectives, EPA etc....what the frig is going on?
you couldn't get through to 9-1-1 or the state police. "oh great!, its a terrorist attack!" .... my brother was able to see the "mushroom" of smoke & fire billowing out of the night sky....loaded his guns, checked on his wife and daughter,...he gets into his truck with half the population of Danvers...checks on our house and follows the sirens. ...

Looking for more info about the explosion...
I'm a chemical engineering student from UNL and have been assigned to report on the chemical explosion/fire at CAI, Inc. in Danvers for one of my classes.
If anyone is interested, I'd like to briefly interview someone living near the area of the explosion. I'm specifically interested in info about the health and pollution concerns regarding the disaster. Please blog or email me at [email protected] if you care to discuss.
Thanks...
